Tito has a soft spot for the Patriots' Day game. His last major-league at-bat came on Patriots Day in 1990 when he was playing for the Milwaukee Brewers, who beat the Red Sox 18-0. Francona played in one more game after that and served as a pinch runner before he was sent to the minors where his career ended.

According to 'EEI, Manny is indeed still getting his day off today, despite yesterday's short day and the fact Coco is still (apparently) not ready to go.

Varitek must still be ill with the flu, as Cash is in the game.

3. Ortiz, dh
4. Youkilis, 1b
5. Drew, rf

I was going to say "with a capital UG" but then I realized that duh, you beat me to it.

Tito is kind of over a barrel with this today. I don't know what else he could do.

I sure hope Cash doesn't get himself hurt.

For all you guys (and Danielle) stuck at work, I'll try to give some context to the Gameday account of the game.

The flu bug making its way through the clubhouse has apparently hit Jerry Remy; Ken Macha will be doing the analysis today.

No break from Remdawg's commercials, however. rolleyes.gif

Over a barrel? Jill, you're probably right that Francona doesn't have much of an option here because once you promise Manny a day off you have to give it to him or you lose him for three weeks while he silently pouts, right?

Please don't confuse me with someone whose name rhymes with 'bummy' or with a Manny-basher, but it seems that Manny could have gone to Francona and said he'd forego the day off today given that yesterday ended earlier than expected for him and that the bench is a little short.

If I was being totally cynical I'm a bit surprised Manny wouldn't want to play today and continue his hot streak of hitting in order to ensure his big payday next year, whether it be from the Sox or someone else.

I know which radio station to avoid today because I'm sure no matter what happens in the game this will be the lone topic of conversation.

Must admit I'm playing devil's advocate today because someone has to. cool.gif

Macha with Orsillo? Now that could get UG-ly. Make sure you post notes for those who can't watch the game today.
