Well the Truck has left Fenway and pitchers and catchers officially report this week. Meaningful baseball is only 6 weeks away. The talk on sports radio this weekend was that the Sox offense will be severely diminished form last year and that they were bad last year. People have short memories the Red Sox won 95 games last year and scored 872 runs. Only the champion Yankees and Angels scored more. The vaunted Yankee offense scored 43 more runs than the Red Sox. The Yankees averaged 5.64 runs per game and the Red Sox 5.38 The Yankees were better and but they were not monumentally better. Trophy better yes.
Will the Red Sox miss Jason Bay and his 36 homers and 119 RBI? Probably they will unless Beltre has a rebound season. The real key to the Sox offense is Ortiz, as bad as he seemed last year he still finished with 28 home runs and 99 RBI. His 794 OPS was not good and if he can rebound to any semblance of his former self the Sox offense could be better than last year. A tall order indeed for 34 ? year old guy to bounce back. Oh and pitching, 2009 Team ERA Yankees 4.26 687 earned runs Red Sox 4.35 695 earned runs. Can we expect better from the Red Sox this year? In 2009 the Yankees were 8 wins, 43 runs scored, 8 runs allowed and one trophy better. 2010 should be interesting. Horrible start for the Olympics, a very sad tale of the young man from Georgia. Opening was pretty cool but I did not like the indoor part. Too bad about the flame malfunction but it was very cool to see of the real great one, number 4 Robert Gordon Orr of Parry Sound Ontario. The flame just looks stupid to me. If only the weather could just cooperate. Looking forward to the men’s and women’s hockey competition, in the women’s the US and Canada should be the gold medal game again. Good Omen Hannah Kearney the first Olympic gold medal winner is from New England and a Red Sox fan and was wearing a Jacoby t-shirt during the opening ceremony. All star game .zzzzzzzzzz. 100 thousand people, how long was the men’s room line? Did you see Oprah try to wipe off Drew Brees’s birthmark, priceless. Mardi Gras is Tuesday!! Hopefully TN is having fun in Paris and has not started an international incident. -------------------- "I honestly think I'd get along better with Hitler than Joe Buck. " Sully October 15, 2007
"Bob P is the type of guy who I would share beers with and then get into an argument with at the end of the night and make him walk home. I emotionally abandoned the guy in Oct., 2004." the once and future king of the Station, June 2008 "These Yankees don't deserve to be mentioned in a conversation with Boston right now. No bullshit.
