Title: nba playoffs
Description: to take my mind off the yankees
TN - April 28, 2007 04:50 AM (GMT)
warriors killing the mavs again tonight, should take a 2-1 series lead with another game left to play at home. baron davis is healthy for awhile and playing like a monster point guard.
Time Out - April 28, 2007 05:14 AM (GMT)
Surprised you're not into the NHL playoffs, TN. Watching a team net an overtime-winning goal isn't much different than a walk-off home run. Don't see the comparison with the let's-play-end-to-end-defense-and-bore-our-fans-to-tears style that is the NBA postseason. Only exception to that would be a Phoenix Suns playoff game, Nash and his teammates make the game fun to watch. Even the upset-minded clubs like Golden State and Denver don't do much for me.

TN, dont ever start an NBA vs NHL thread again
I'm so bitter
Joe - April 30, 2007 01:31 PM (GMT)
Don't be bitter Mel.
Are the Mavs toast?
Playoff OT in hockey is the single most exciting thing in sports.

highlight of last night's mavs-warriors game was pam oliver's interview with baron davis after the game was over. pam looks very nice in HD.

Don't know which Warrior threw it, but that was a terrific outlet pass that was thrown to Davis before that nearly half-court shot he made to beat the halftime buzzer. Reminded me a lot of how Dave Cowens used to whip the ball out quickly to Havlicek or Jo Jo to start a Celtics fast break.
Joe - April 30, 2007 04:41 PM (GMT)
I thought the fast break was against the rules in the NBA?

anyone watching this Mavs-Warriors game?
pretty intense..
Golden St reminds me of those fearless Pistons teams who kept coming after the Celtics in the late 80s
mike - May 2, 2007 11:25 AM (GMT)
David Aldridge in yesterday's Philadelphia Inquirer said that the Mavs are the 12th NBA team to win 65 games or more in the regular season. The previous 11 of them all won the championship, the lone exception being the 68-14 Celtics of 1972-73. Should the Warriors win at home in game 6, it may be the greatest upset in NBA history.
Good analogy on the Piston team, Mel. Vinnie Johnson coming off the bench was always frightening sight.

when (i think it was) Baron Davis hit the wild 3 to go up 112-103, thought it was over.. gotta give Dirk credit for immediately answering with his two 3s..
I love the enthusiasm of the guys on the sideline for GS. it's pretty rare (at least for me) to see an NBA team all pull together like this.
the next 1 or 2 games could be classics

Pam's gotta be at least as old as Helena. I remember being attracted to her 10 or 15 years ago.

what are the chances of pam oliver doing play-by-play tonight? i also want her singing the national anthem.

Wonder if any old Warrior players that were part of the '75 championship will be on hand tonight. Kieth Wilkes, Phil Smith and Rick Barry all contributed to that famous four game sweep of the favored Bullets back then. K.C. Jones was the Bullet head man at the time and nearly had another ring. Al Attles was the Warrior head coach then and as much attention as two black head coaches got this past SB, I don't recall it being much of an issue back then.

Haven't been this excited for an NBA game since Bird retired. Well, maybe that Game 6 with the Bulls-Utah in 1998, but that's it.
Not even sure who I'm rooting for. If the Mavs lose, I'm laying 50-50 odds that Cuban knocks out Nellie right there on the court.

I'm pulling for Dallas here.. mostly to see this series go 7, also because we need a Dallas-Phoenix series
tell you what, a team could be up 20 going into the 4th, and I still wont think the game's over

I agree, but those fans are capable of almost anything tonight if they win. Also, they seem diehards and it's been a long time coming. And this is coming from someone who really likes the Mavs. Heck, little Dick Schaap-style name dropping, I've met more than half of them, they all live in the condo complex across the street.
TN - May 4, 2007 01:03 AM (GMT)
pam oliver's probably warming up her tonsils right now.

so you just crossed the street and told Dirk to take some games off down the stretch, killing my fantasy team?
I've driven by Pierce's house (right down the road from work) a few times but havent seen him yet

I see Dirk all the time, he even recognizes me at this point. At the grocery store, at the sub shop, running on the trail, I don't bother him, just say what's up or whatever. We've talked a little here and there, not really about hoops.
I didn't mention fantasy to him, though.
How awful is Pam Oliver? Her questions make Jim Gray look like that Edward R. Morrow. She also has thicker eyebrows than Dr. Pappas.

Nice story this week on Nellie and the Warriors in SI. Wish the Warriors would revert back to those old gold unis. The picture of the Golden Gate Bridge and the words The City above it were very cool.
