When I started typing this, we had just tied the game ... :(

Gotta love the 'Where's Rutgers' feature. Anyone in New York who doesn't know where Rutgers is probably doesn't know where their doink is.

I've never seen a weirder play than that extra point.

Gummy - November 10, 2006 01:26 AM (GMT)
I found my doink...

Had a boss who used to say Doink the Clown like Sull used to say Joe Shit the Rag Man. I'd never heard of either of them before then. Just sounded funny.

I have no idea which is playing worst right now: Rutgers' offense, its defense, or its special teams. That's balance!

TN - November 10, 2006 02:15 AM (GMT)
halftime. you still got a chance. need to do something crazy early in the third quarter and get the crowd into the game.

Terry, don't lie to the child. It's not healthy for your relationship.

I'm sincerely sorry, troy.

They're obviously still in it, unlikely as a victory might seem.

Don't worry, I won't be crushed if we lose. First of all, I'm not that greedy; I didn't expect a win. Second, as T pointed out, we've played almost no one. Louisville's last game was against the No. 3 team in the country. No shame in being down 11 at the half.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:04 AM (GMT)
Wow. don't want to jinx the Rutgers defense, but it's really starting to look like they just needed the first half to adjust to the speed of a big-time offense. Looking much better thus far this half.

Offensively, Schiano seems to be following Belichick's game plan from Sunday. Would like to see Rice get the ball on third-and-4. Too much passing for this quarterback ...

ALTHOUGH THAT PASS WASN'T SO BAD ...

25-22, Louisville ...

TN - November 10, 2006 03:06 AM (GMT)
now we'll see how good louisville is.

even the big east commissioner is rooting against rutgers. you guys could be costing the conference several million bucks in BCS revenue tonight.

i love it.

Gummy - November 10, 2006 03:08 AM (GMT)
Did they truck in some people from out of state to fill the stadium?

troy - November 10, 2006 03:09 AM (GMT)
I don't understand how it's this close. Louisville is doing an outstanding job against the run, yet we've scored 22, and our special teams, normally awesome, has given up a big return every time we've kicked it. This Rutgers defense is awesome. Louisville receivers might be anticipating getting hit a bit, too. Been a few drops.

I'm pretty sure I covered the first Thursday night ESPN football game, Pitt at Rutgers. We installed lights for it. Made deadline, too.

Rutgers enrollment is something like 45,000. Good thing it's not a Saturday game; all the Jersey boys go home for the weekend.

TN - November 10, 2006 03:21 AM (GMT)
new jersey is a lot better state for high school football than massachusetts. that's not even arguable, even by gummy. we're talking blue-chip talent that ends up in division 1 all over the country. nebraska and penn state used to make a living stealing players out of the garden state. franco harris, lydell mitchell, irving fryar, to name a few.

nobody ever went to their games until now was my point.

Sully - November 10, 2006 03:22 AM (GMT)
This could be the fourth-quarter of the season in terms of the national title picture.

Imagine typing that sentence about this game two months ago.

GL Troy, I'm rooting for the Knights.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:25 AM (GMT)
Thanks, Jeff and Terry.

Seriously, this defense just keeps coming, doesn't it? This looks a lot like the Pitt game.

Yeah, but trust me on this, there's a huge difference between Bobby Petrino and Dave Wannstedt.

If you mean before this week, that's not true; they've just about sold out every home game this year. If you mean before this year, well sure. They sucked until last year.

my point is rutgers is located in a fertile football territory.

my point has nothing to do with anything you said. just stated an obvious fact. hell, boston college gets a lot of its players out of new jersey, too.

Not sure if this still applies, but for years, BC had more players from New Jersey than Massachusetts.

Yeah, but trust me on this, there's a huge difference between Bobby Petrino and Dave Wannstedt.

No doubt, but Bobby's not making any effective adjustments. Throw a frickin screen or something. He had some nice tricks in the first half; surely he didn't use them all.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:30 AM (GMT)
Gonna be a lot fewer Jersey studs available from now on!

You are correct, but I did a poor job making my point.

There's a big difference in terms of fourth-quarter management of a football team between Wannstedt and my freshman football coach who picked up a pair of DWIs during the season.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:32 AM (GMT)
This is easily as weird as watching the Patriots go on to win it all in 2001.

I don't get it. Who are you saying is the better coach: Wannstedt or Petrino?

Hey, how 'bout our stud kicker? We're about a good QB away from playing for an NCAA title. Really good all-around team, otherwise.

Sully - November 10, 2006 03:34 AM (GMT)
Wow. 46 yards, that's impressive.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:34 AM (GMT)
C'mon, everyone, hop on board!

troy - November 10, 2006 03:35 AM (GMT)
It'd be incredible to win this, but it's awesome just to be here now. You guys understand how bad we were, right?

TN - November 10, 2006 03:36 AM (GMT)
hate to say it but rutgers is a better team than penn state. :(

-BB- - November 10, 2006 03:43 AM (GMT)
I'm impressed with the way Rutgers hits on D. Pretty cool that they get to play this game on a big stage. I'm happy for you, Troy. Let me know if anyone scores as Mrs. BB is getting tired of the channel switching back and forth.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:47 AM (GMT)
Rutgers looks like a pretty good bet to win the last game it plays this year. I assume it'll be a second- or third-place team from an SEC/Big 10-type conference, and hanging with these guys, doing what they did against Palko and this QB, they'll know they can play anyone.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:48 AM (GMT)
I think that was a dangerous first down for Louisville to give up, that first one ...

troy - November 10, 2006 03:49 AM (GMT)
PLEASE be conservative with the passing game ...

Dude, what are you talking about? You drunk?

If they win this game and West Virginia, Rutgers my friend is playing for the national championship. If they don't, they ought be done with the entire system.

troy - November 10, 2006 03:54 AM (GMT)
I'm pretty sure they wouldn't. Might depend on where West Virginia ranks when they play them. But how high do you think Rutgers would be ranked if, hypothetically, in theory, they won this game? Not high enough to play for the title, I don't think.

First the Pats, now Rutgers: Coaching is king in football.

Have you guys met Ray Rice yet?

What a @#^%@& drive.

Jill D - November 10, 2006 03:55 AM (GMT)
Whoa, I turned to Grey's Anatomy, it was 25-14, now I tune in just in time for a fantastic finish!

How's Rutgers' kicker?

Joe - November 10, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
The ESPN guys are saying he's able to kick it from 50. Sounds like he's pretty good.

troy, you in cardiac arrest yet?

troy - November 10, 2006 03:58 AM (GMT)
Little bit.

I agree that they wouldn't. Not sure if they shouldn't, but I'm pretty sure I don't think they're the second best team in the country.

Obviously either OSU or Michigan is going to lose one, and everyone else but Rutgers would have 1 loss, but I'd have a hard time putting them in there over Texas or Auburn or Florida, or even USC.

Joe - November 10, 2006 03:59 AM (GMT)
If he hits this, that new rule where the clock starts when you kickoff rather than when it is fielded comes into play in a big way.
