I feel guilty as I haven't been on here for ages! but am hoping someone might be able to help.

I am looking for a new friend for Jack, he has been very down since Milo our old Whippet cross had to be PTS a few weeks ago. We re-homed Jack 3 years ago from the RSPCA in Surrey, he had a very bad start in life and had been treated in a horrible way, but with lots of love and time, he is now a gentle and well behaved boy...well most of the time!!
The problem I have is that we moved to Normandy France just after we had him and it is proving very hard to find another Saluki here.

I would almost certainly be able to find the right playmate for him if we were still in the UK, or I could of course look to buy from a breeder, but I really want to give another rescue dog a chance of a fun life with us.
The beach and forest to run and play in has been wonderful for Jack so a rescue Saluki is what I am looking for.

Does anyone now of a rescue in France or anywhere this side of the channel?
Any thoughts would be very welcome.

Many thanks

Hi Sorry to hear about Milo. Hope you find a friend soon for Jack. I know of a place called Pheonix animal rescue that is run by english people in the Dordogne. They don't have a kennels as such but put animals in foster homes until a new home can be found. I think they work with the other animal shelters as well and the French SPA so they may be able to find you what you are looking for. Good Luck.

Sorry for the delay in saying thank to you all for your condolences at poor old Milo's passing. He is now 'snoozing' under the hazelnut tree at the bottom of the garden angel3.gif
I had to make a flying visit back to th UK to see my son for a few days. He had an accident involving one of his eyes, All ok now, so I left him in the care of the girlfriend! I would have liked the time to look for a dog when there but I had to get back.
Jack went to a new kennel whilst I was away, he had a great time playing with the owners dogs, which was really good for him as he was very down, the only trouble is that he now seems even sadder than before. He didn't eat at all yesterday and has only had some of his food today! We took him to the Sunday morning market today which perked him up no end! Everyone stops to admire him and ask what he is. You could see he was loving it....such a Saluki! But back to wandering around looking lost now!
Am hoping I can still find him a friend so will post pictures if I am lucky.

I am sure your dog would enjoy any companion be it a Saluki or another breed. I ended up with Stella for the same reason, my Weim became depressed following the loss of our old boy. I am sure now that he is subjected ot Stella, however, he is rueing the day he was ever so depressed wink.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Anyway, the point is, despite what Stella might tell you, both dogs have a strong bond and enjoy the companionship.

One of the UK Saluki breeders relocated to France - her dogs are fab - if you want to know anymore PM me and I will give you the info.

You could always contact Saluki Welfare - they have a few young dogs on their books now - rescues

A Saluki matures officially at 3 years of age.

Unofficially, they mature at 12, go senile then die.

So 'no change there then'.
