Hi Everyone,

Was just wondering if anyone else had a fussy saluki. I have been doing a little training with Freya and bought her a bunch of different dog treats for encouragement. Only she wont eat half of them! She takes them off me then runs off and spits them out. I have noticed she really hates anything sweet. Kc dropped a malteaser, Freya grabbed it then spat it out like she was being poisoned! Not that I normally feed my dogs chocolate of course but the kids do have a habit of missing their mouths and stuff occasionally falls into the jaws of waiting hounds. Having always had lurchers before any human food is usually fair game once it hits the floor, however small the morsel!

So could anyone tell me is this normal behaviour for a saluki or have I just got a fussy one?

The funny thing was she stole half a birthday cake of the kitchen counter the other day (my fault for leaving it there unattended) and then didnt like it so she dumped it in the garden. Lucky really as she would have had a horrible tummy ache if she had eaten it.

Thanks Sally

No some Salukis can be fussy eaters. Mine would steal your breath and is an indiscriminate eater, but it is not unusual to be fussy. At times even mine will turn her nose up at things. She has been particularly fussy in quarantine kennels, to the point she has them feeding her by hand! Think this is due to the stress etc at first and then once she realised that she could be a diva, she went all out rolleyes.gif

If your Saluki is turning her nose up at sweet things this is not a bad thing. wink.gif

Thank you. Its not just mine then.

She loves hot dog pieces and I have just dicovered those beef strip treats seem to appeal to her so I guess I shall have to stick with those for now.

She has settled on Dr. Johns for meals after turning her nose up at Eukanuba. blink.gif

I had to put my little JR in quarantine when I brought him back from Malaysia about 15 years ago. After two years livng in the sun I think it was the cold he struggled with most. They had to put a little jumper on him till he acclimatised the poor lad. smile.gif

Yes I think the two dogs struggle with the cold. We were living in Saudi Arabia for the last 5 years so it was very hot. Both dogs are eating more in the colder climate, especially my Weim but he is a foody laugh.gif laugh.gif laugh.gif Stella goes mad for tripe sticks and she is partial to those little cocktail sausages too and anything that happens to be lying on the kitchen counter on the rare occasion we forget smile.gif

I'm lucky with all my guys, salukis and non-salukis. They pretty much eat whatever is put in front of them.

I have however bought this recently to provide Flash with some variety (he is on a vegan diet so it's a bit boring I guess) and Flash absolutely loves it. I shall now get the other varieties too.

Flavour enhancer (beef)
