'Walking Ollie' is the true life story of the man who wants a dog. A lurcher is the last thing on his mind, he has never even heard of the breed. But when he comes across Ollie, the saluki x greyhound pup, at the rescue centre he decides to take him home.
Stephen Foster, the author and owner of Ollie was first looking for a Vizsla but ends up re-homing Ollie. foster's knowledge of dogs is so vague that he has to look up 'lurcher' in the key reference work The Giant Book of the Dog, to find out what sort of animal is coming to live with him. His research counts for little: the new arrival does not conform to any known breed standard whatsoever that might be considered do-normal. Walking Ollie is for anyone who has ever loved a dog- a hillarious and touching account of one man's struggle to turn a decidedly difficult animal into something resembling a domestic pet. It really is a great book, so i suggest buying/reading it. It may also help you with problems with your own dog. x |

I've read it and it describes my Bailey perfectly.
I suspect that Stephen Foster may be lurking around on this site somewhere!! (No evidence for this, just that he mentions being on Saluki forums so I hope he is here!) -------------------- Always try to be the kind of person your dog thinks you are

This book is a really great read and well worth it, I'd recommend it to anyone, especially people with saluki lurchers! Olly is so much like our charlie, and he looks the same too.

I've just finished reading 'Along Came Dylan' and its another great one, it had me laughing and comparing saluki notes right from the start. The only sad bit is that it only took me a couple of evenings to read and now I need more!!
