I have never used it but for a raw kibble it is supposed to be one of the best. I have hear really good things about it a friend of mine owns a natural pet store and raves about it. Pricey but totally worth it from what I have heard.

I have just ordered a bag of it for our two. The samples went down well. How are yours doing on it?

I have never used it, I am a long tme raw feeder. I have heard some good things about it. I know someone through another forum who has fed her Weim bitch on it for a time and is very pleased with it.

I have used Orijen for quite a long time now, along with some raw and Nature's Diet wet.

I noticed a difference in my older dog (she is 7 now) when I switched (they were primarily on Hills before), she became more sparky and active again plus when her coat shed the new one was a lot thicker and softer than before, a definite improvement.

I have noticed though that it has changed ever so slightly recently, it doesn't smell of salmon which it once did, this is the original version, not the fish. I phoned the UK supplier about it and they said that the ingredients do change depending on whats available and there may have been less fish in that particular batch. However it's smelt different for over a year now so I'm not convinced they aren't just trying to make a bit more profit by cutting out a bit of the more expensive fish etc.

Also while on the topic of high meat/grain free foods has anyone tried Applaws dry dog food, it got launched last month?

I am thinking about giving Felix Orijen, as well as raw/wet feeding, my vet recommends it as do many other dog owners, I gather it can put weight on, not a bad thing for a Saluki. I will let you know how I get on. I have never fed kibble to my dogs, so this will be new for me, I am still a little unsure but willing to give it a go for a while and see how we get on. Interested toknow hoe others are getting on with it, so all comments welcome.

thanks I will. Do you have any problems with the high protein content?

Hi Stella,

Orijen is probably the only kibble I'd buy to feed my dogs - maybe Wellness Core and a few others come a close second, but Orijen, IMO, is the best kibble out there. I am a raw feeder, but I do have some kibble in a tub just in case I run out of food or I forgot to thaw Louie the Saluki's food overnight (he refuses frozen raw food). And the only kibble I have with me, is Orijen.

I have no problem with the high protein content. It is all very good quality. One good thing about Orijen is that you would not have to feed as much as you would, if you fed, say, Hill's Science Diet or some other (IMO) inferior kibble.

I had two of my dogs on Orijen for a few months. They did very well on it. However, Dylan put on weight on it and I ended up feeding such a small amount to him (less than a mug a day) that I started to feel sorry for him as he always seemed hungry. That's when I went back to CSJ which I have been feeding for years with good results.

Very interesting, I fed CSJ for a month as a mixer biscuit on the advice of CSJ, but Felix went through the roof with energy, so I took him off it and I now give him Denes mixer biscuit with raw or cooked meat. I have heard that dogs put on weight with Orijen. What I am concerned about is his energy levels going sky high, interested to know if anyone has any experience of this.

The energy levels didn't change on Orijen with neither of our dogs!

I definitely wouldn't say it made the younger dogs hyper but it definitely perked up my older dog which is a good thing biggrin.gif

Thanks glad to hear that it does not make them hyper, I have been giving Felix 2lbs of meat a day, Chicken, tripe, lamb etc) plus mixer biscuits approx 1lb and vegies, plus bones. All on the advice of a vet, but this does seem rather a lot, what do others think?
