EXHIBITIONS / SPECIAL ATTRACTIONS Fairies! Mermaids! The Wolfman! All these and more were assumed to be myths, legends of lore, impossible. Yet here they all are, or quite a few of them at least, on display and able for onlookers to interact with -- however beings like the Wolfman aren't so pleasant so it isn't always suggested to go poking at the glass or anything.

ARTHUR'S SEAT At 822 feet, Arthur's Seat is the highest of Edinburgh's many hills. It is an extinct volcano in the middle of central Edinburgh and the climb through Holyrood Park to the top of it can be a challenging hike. Don't worry - you can drive most of the way to enjoy the magnificent views of Edinburgh Castle and the Old Town.

EDINBURGH CASTLE An ancient fortress which dominates the city sky-line from its position atop the volcanic Castle Rock. The Castle has been involved in many historical conflicts, from the Wars of Scottish Independence in the 14th century, up to the Jacobite Rising of 1745, and has been besieged, both successfully and unsuccessfully, on several occasions. In the 17th century, the Castle became a military base, with a large garrison. The Castle is now in the care of Historic Scotland, and is Scotland's second-most-visited tourist attraction.

CAFE ROYAL CIRCLE BAR Always buzzing in the afternoon and evenings, here customers can unwind in the dark leather booths or by the circle bar, where the odd celebrity sighting has been known to occur. The menu features variations on old favourites, more vegetarian options and antipasti or seafood platters to share. Boasting its own smokery in the kitchen and a successful run since 1863, this bar is one of the city’s gems.
