As per the discussion from the other thread, we should first explore whether people want to add any new categories to scoring, or not (options to discuss seem to include hits and blocked shots mainly). Vote away guys.

I thought we had decided in the previous poll to add Hits and Blocked Shots. So voted that way again.

If we're doing the poll here the way it is set, we should tell people what the categories to choose from will be, so that those who don't want any of those categories can vote 'no change' here.

This will be the first poll, then there will be a second to see what categories will be in place. Categories that get at least 16 votes will be added. I guess I could just do that again, like the original, but I figured we should see if there's people that want the change.

I voted for no change because i think it is wrong to change a league after guys have drafted/traded/built their teams with a certain scoring system in mind

Which fossilizes a league and doesn't let it learn from its own experience and evolve further. If after a few years of trying the current stats out we realize that certain NHL players have no value at all but that new categories can fix that, why should we be stuck with the categories we now realized, from experience, are flawed but can be improved?

Yes, I planned and drafted and traded based on a certain system. And if we decide to add categories to it all that it will mean is that I revisit my team, change my valuation of different players accordingly, and adjust my trading accordingly. Adapt and adjust - you need to be good at that to be a successful GM in keeper leagues anyway. Just as you adjust when you realize a certain player you were hoping will be a second liner is settling into a third line role, you can adjust to counting certain stats that weren't there before.

That being said, I agree that stat changes shouldn't be done lightly or every season because then there is no value to planning or strategizing your team. On this Trotts is right. What I'd suggest is that:

(a) if we decide on added stats categories, we only apply the change in 2012-2013, thereby giving GMs ample time to adjust and plan.

(B ) we put a provision in the rules that stats changes can only be made at least 3 seasons from the previous stats changes.

Trotts/Spoiler, do these provisos sufficiently address your concerns?

A 3-year lead time would address any concerns I have ... I don't mind that.

2012-2013 or 2013-14 would be fine with me.

Same here, having a full season to adjust should suffice to implement changes shall they be agreed on by a majority.

I'd be open to the addition of new scoring cats, but I can't vote 'yes' to the poll question as posed because I'd need to know the cats being considered before I would rubber stamp it. I won't vote 'no' because I'm not ready to rule out the addition of new cats.

If you do not wish to vote either way (as I know of one team for a fact) please post that you are not voting as that would change the number needed for a majority.

So If 1 team does not vote, 15 should be a majority.

Otherwise we might never get any consensus one way or another.

I voted no but would reconsider if it were for 12-13 13-14
and I knew which categories.
