Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West.

Although I haven't finished it as of yet, the book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West is intriguing and very absorbing. The book shows everything from the birth of Elphaba (who will later on become the Wicked Witch of the West) to her death.

After being born from a minister and a common woman, Elphaba is shown throughout her struggles during infancy, school, political struggles, and others. It shows the opression of animals and Animals (Animals are animals with a concience and the ability to speak human tongue.) against the laws in Oz and how Elphaba tried to help the Animals from the Wizard's ban upon them. Elphaba befriends Galinda (who, after the murder of a Goat professor, becomes Saint Glinda, the Good Witch of the North) during school and helps her younger sister, Nessarose (who is crippled with the fact of being armless - she also becomes the Wicked Witch of the East) during her first couple years of school. Alas, after meeting the Wizard, Elphaba vanishes to join a resistance against him.

I've yet to find out what happens after that. I personally recommend this book to readers with mature minds open to political views.
