Discuss all in here.

my favorite god is Anubis , which is however a minor god , still a god which has impressed me much. he belongs to the egyptian mythology. he is a jackal like god.

(Posted Image) <-- that is a drawing of him made 5000 years ago. just like the following one (Posted Image)

Mythology isn't all about gods. It's about mythological creatures like the minotaur and peopla as well. Like Heracles. I've read a book about the works of Heracles and all and it was very interesting. Can't seem to find any books about the less familiar mythological people. I also like Odyssee. Didn't read the book but the movie was very good and so is the story. It's about the Trojan Horse and all. Then Oddyseus(or whatever it is in english) says he doesn't need the gods and he gets punished.(you all know that rite?) That's a lovely story as well I think.

I've kinda turned into a little mythology freak but an't find any good books about it :(

How about we make a little Mythology Q&A too. could be fun and I could learn stuff :D

Well... Q&A but you can still post other things :P..

I'll start with a first simple question.

Who wrote The Odyssey? (that question should be basic enough.)

Homer was a blind Greek poet who is believed to have written both the Iliad and the Odyssey. Little is known about him, and some scholars debate his existence. However, he is significant because the novels are attributed to him, and ancient Greek history treats him as if he was an actual person. Since the Greeks believed that Homer wrote the Odyssey, the modern reader can assume that as well. Homer probably wrote the Odyssey after the Iliad. The Odyssey was first an oral poem, and was transcribed around 700 BC. Repetition of certain lines and its metrical structure helped the storyteller remember the poem.

Homer is a significant historical figure because his work is one of the oldest examples of the modern novel that modern scholars have. Homer’s Odyssey has a more modern flair than even the Iliad: it contains a healthy dose of blood and gore, which modern audiences still enjoy, and the Odyssey has a complex plot structure. Odysseus’ son gets several chapters devoted to him before the reader gets to meet the title character, and Odysseus’ wanderings are all told in flashback form. Humor even exists in the Odyssey, when a naked Odysseus is found by the princess Nausikaa and her servants. In this way, the Odyssey works well as a movie-like story, where the reader can visualize the events of the novel.

Nope, that's not one >_<. Well, you go and "insult"? google. I'd rather have it if you'd consult it lolz. :P:P you don't need to offend google by insulting it.

Or just go to the library and get the book "slangen in de kinderkamer" and read about all the works

Hmm.. I haven;t looked for english book in our small library yet. You probably have to go to the one in Eindhoven to have a little chance of finding one.

But the dutch one is very good too since it's the same book only translated.

I recommend reading about Icarus too. It's sad, and interesting story.

If I dont remember it totaly wrong (which I might) I think three of the tewlve/thirteen feats he was asked to was:

* To beat the Hydra
* "lend" Cerberus from Hades and show him to the king who asked him to do it and then take Cerberus back to where he was when he "lended" him.
* Wasnt he suposed to clean someones gigantic/endless stables as well?

Jup absolutely right :D

And the big stable thingie he had to clean was because some old king was too lazy to do it. The king had maneating horses so he was afraid to come to them. Heracles cleaned the stable by digging a little river into the stable and wash everything away.

And he did one volunterely too. He freed Prometheus the Titan too ;)

To be exactly :P
