Well 3D Studio Max 2008 should be out soon boasting some technical improvements other R9 hopefully for the better. Me & Harry are currently running it but so far we've only noticed a few subtle changes as most stuff is relatively the same. However it did run straight away with Vista so I guess that's a good point.

I think it's best to wait for the proper final release before fully checking it out!
