Episode #50: Madden 11 / Monday Night Combat / DeathSpank / Clash of the Titans / Mafia II / Scott Pilgrim
Craig starts the show with a sampling of a few Indie Games old and new with Dragon Chess and Flotilla. Sean and Jeremy give the co-op action of Castlevania: Harmony of Despair a try, Craig and Jeremy grind their way through DeathSpank, Monday Night Combat becomes an instant purchase for everyone, and Sean offers some closing comments on LIMBO. From there everybody shares their impressions of the Mafia II demo, Clash of the Titans makes Jeremy talk about things probably better left private, and Sean checks out this year’s latest installment of Madden. The show closes with a little Scott Pilgrim Vs. The World talk as nobody is able to contain their excitement. |

Completely agree Mafia 2 will benifit from having a more linear story driven parth, rather than the random wanderings of GTA which, while are good can sometimes make for a souless experience, however im adamant that the cover system will bite you in the ass, for example, we have probably all experienced it before when, your running to cover only to realise you did not notice that guy to the side, panic strikes, you pull back to retreat but, 'Duh' you didnt press A or have the time to before AI mobster#223 paints the room with grey matter. I guess only time will tell. :P

Sean your friend can play online because there is a trial period of either 7 or 10 days that you can setup so you guys can play. Sean are you talking about Gus Johnson ?
Also the headset thing sounds cool especially if your playing 2 player local.

I really have nothing constructive to say about this podcast or anything of merit to add to the discussion (which is normal), but wow, I really, really enjoyed this episode. Good work guys

I always knew one of you was a pedophile... I just couldn't figure out which one until now. That was a classic ending. "I can look..." "No, you literally cannot, it is still illegal" (or something to that effect)

I do have some issues with MNC, and unfortunately forgot to speak up on those during the show. I'll have to add in some more thoughts the next time around. As it is, there seems to be some issues with game connectivity. They also have a pretty terrible party system for the Blitz rounds. (You can't change the match level without exiting and joining up the party again.) There's just a lot of things that feel inconvenient.
All that said though, the game is still a ton of fun and worth those minor annoyances to get in and playing.

Congratulations on 50 episodes. Good episode overall. I can't believe how cruel you guys were to Clash of the Titans. I do agree with Sean, that the new film was a disappointment.
I have on correction to make in regards to the Scott Pilgrim film discussion. You pronounced Brandon Routh's last name as "Roth". The pronunciation of his last name rhymes with "South". Just wanted to make that clarification, because at first I didn't know who the hell "Brandon Roth" was, until I remembered what actors were in that film.

Have you played it? It's basically the opposite of fun.

I don't doubt that. If a licensed game has to wait until the DVD release, that means it's really bad. You guys have said on past shows, you guys don't normally give time to games you don't like. So to hear you unleash on Clash of the Titans was a surprise. I had no problem with any of your comments, I was just surprised to hear them.

Well it is a pretty dead time right now for retail, so I had to settle for something. <_<

So I'm late to the listening party, and haven't actually finished yet but nice review of flotilla. It's a bitching game. It's also a pc game, but it's $10 on steam and only $5 (400msp) on XBLIG. FWIW, I think I ranted about it somewhere in the XBLIG thread that I haven't updated in forever. But like you said, the interface takes some getting use to but it's pretty fun once you do.
I haven't played MNC yet, but discussions like the one yous guys had sure make it hard for me not to pick it up.
I do LOVE Deathspank. Simple, but pretty fun. If it makes anyone else feel better I learned about picking up the grinder when Prof mentioned it.
Good show, and huzzah on hitting 50!

Also:
Sean, while you are a Vikings fan and so by the laws of the universe we are mortal enemies, I do share your dislike for Chris "I played for the Bengals" Collinsworth(less).
