Title: Mafia 2
Description: Anyone played the demo?
TOO KINGS - August 10, 2010 09:40 PM (GMT)
August 24th can not get here sooner. I want this game sooo bad. You guys have to play this demo. My GOD the soundtrack alone is so impressive let alone the game itself. Anyone else played it?
Superfro33 - August 10, 2010 09:46 PM (GMT)
I will be checking it out fo' sho'. Heard some awesome things about it. I think I'm getting on a conference call later this week with some other sites and the Dev team, so maybe that'll generate some more info.

Might have to do that. Every time I hear "Mafia II" I keep thinking of the Godfather II game, which I heard wasn't very good.

PLEASE FRO, ask them about the soundtrack and how many songs are in the game. PLEASE!!!?

You saying that just made me realize that those are different games/series.
Sheesh maybe this has been off my radar for no good reason. I'll give it a look.

I know they are different games and series. But I just never really paid attention to either one, I thought Mafia II came out a long time ago around the same time Godfather II did.
I'm actually curious about this now, because it's Mafia open world stuff, which is why I loved GTA III so much.
Am I the only one who totally forgot about the Godfather games?
TOO KINGS - August 10, 2010 10:46 PM (GMT)
I am dead serious when I say that I am popping like millions of boners for this game. I'm sitting in the demo and just listening to the radio in the apt.
en3carnage - August 11, 2010 12:13 AM (GMT)
Played it although very short it was great romp, almost ordered the Collecters Edition Released 20th August UK, but paying so much more for just a cd of orchestral music and a new suit kinda sucks, i will wait for normal edition 27th August.
P.S didnt like having to press A to release cover, would like to be able to pull out of it, in frantic situations. B)
Spicollidriver - August 11, 2010 12:41 AM (GMT)
There's no toggle for that in theoptions because that seems kind of lazy to leave out.
Phil the guy - August 11, 2010 02:07 AM (GMT)
Played through it once and deleted it. Too short. And I heard "Vito" so many damn times I thought I was in a COD multiplayer lobby.
I didn't really get a chance to look around the environment, the mission was too scripted. Looks like it could be a good game, I just won't think it's for me.

I thought it was pretty awesome, personally. The cover system is well executed. I can deal with 'a to release" as long as it releases me the right way, and it does. Animations and control are excellent.
Not sure why a scripted mission would be a turnoff. It's no different than GTA or Saints Row. I wish I had been given more than 10 minutes of free roam, but it'll be a buy for me for sure.
Aftrthought051 - August 11, 2010 06:27 PM (GMT)
That demo was great. I really like this game now. Not gonna get it right away b/c of funds, but I will definitely be looking for this game when it drops in price.
Did everyone find the Playboy in your apartment? Now that gave me a boner.
Superfro33 - August 11, 2010 06:36 PM (GMT)
I've decided that I want to play the demo, but don't want to talk to you people about it. :P

I think there are five different mags in the demo. I found two on my first playthough. Ooo la la!

If I heard everything right, it sounded like there is 122 tracks in the game. Which is crazy right?
Sounds like it covers 20's-50's featuring jazz, swing, blues, R&B, Rockabilly, up through the 50's Rock & Roll explosion.

If by crazy you mean boner inducing panic then, YES!! I felt like a gangster in the 50's when I played the demo. The immersion factor was multiplied by the amazing licsensed tracks they decided to use. You can tell these guys aren't screwing around. They put a lot of care in this game and it shows.

This game is really odd. I'm loving it thus far, up to Chapter 8, but it just seems like I'm playing an interactive movie. (And doing some of the more boring parts of it at that.) That being said, I'm totally sucked in to the story. Chapter 6 was a huge curve for me, and I thought Chapter 7 had some really awesome/entertaining moments. I have a feeling stuff will really pick up, but even now 4+ hours in there hasn't been too much in the way of excitement on an action level.
I can see a lot of people picking up this game thinking it's like a 50's style gangster GTA though, and that is totally not what they're going to find.

Absolutely.
I've enjoyed what I've had a chance to play (ch. 3). Should get more time this weekend. I'm looking forward to it.

Im now starting to get a little worried, having seen some reviews saying at a strech this is a 10 hour 'fairly run of the mill' shooter, with no redeeming extras. Im waiting for delivery today but now im thinking may be best to return this and pick up as a rental later down the line, i was hoping that this would take a while to do, and lead up to Halo Reach nicely.

I certainly don't view it as a "run of the mill shooter" by any stretch, but I would definitely say it's something that could probably be wrapped up in a rental if you put the time into it. It's extremely linear and offers nothing in the way of side quests outside of collectibles around the city. (wanted posters and playboys) Also, you do A LOT of driving around and not so much shooting. (At least up to the point I'm currently at.) I'm enjoying it a great deal, but I'm not sure a lot of the GTA/ADD generation are going to have the patience for it.

Well a few moments after posting my last comment, the mail arrived including a letter saying a large cash injection has been put in my Bank, so i though to hell with it 'take one for the team' while i can offord it. Not too sure what to think though, i like driving controls and combats well done, but being a open world addict im suprised i feel no need to explore, what is in my opinion to be a bit of a barren and souless environment, Maybe as it was suggested i seem to have too higher standards towards my games and recently maybe thats a valid statement, im finding it harder and harder to enjoy my gaming in the last few months, i hope im not "growing out of it" as the GF would say, gaming has been a huge part of my pastime over the last 20 years, anyhow i am rambling so, i think i will overall enjoy this game dispite the short playtime, but hey i need a new control pad and a Mafia 2 Trade in will be ideal.
PS. Vegas DLC is hideous. (My opinion, please no horse head in my bed)
PSS. I may have to eat humble pie over earlier statements regarding the A to release cover, i found it quite ok.
