Episode #49: Castlevania:HD / Hydro Thunder / Final Fantasy XIII / Toy Story 3 / LIMBO / Kane & Lynch 2 / SDCC
Things get rolling with a handful of Indie Games featuring Text Zedventure, Super Avatar World, Avatar Pinball, Ophidian Wars: Opac's Journey, and Platformance: Castle Pain. Craig and Sean manuever the dangerous world of LIMBO, Sean brings the arcade home with Hydro Thunder Hurricane, and Jeremy goes it alone with the oddly addictive Castlevania: Harmony of Despair. Sean and Craig both checked out the new demo for Kane & Lynch 2: Dog Days, Sean takes advantage of some 20x XP in Gears of War 2 and gets lost in the sandbox that is Toy Story 3, and Craig has some pointed opinions on Final Fantasy XIII. The show closes with Jeremy's report on his visit to the San Diego Comic-Con including looks at Dead Space 2, Red Faction Armageddon, Spider-Man: Shattered Dimensions, James Bond: Blood Stone, Comic Jumper, and how he would totally leave you sitting on a bench in order to chat with the cast of NBC's Community. |

@ Craig. Hell yeah brother, tell'em how it is! I'm right there w/ you. I hate one hit kills, I hate crap that you work and work at only to be shot right down, and I hate people who complain that any game is too easy. Up the difficulty then. Games are meant to be enjoyed, not lose hair over or break knuckles in walls. I wish you had recorded that rant. Sure, I would've laughed, but I also would have been nodding my head.
I would like to see if enough ppl on these forums are interested in a Kane & Lynch 2 demo night would like to play multiplayer. The problem w/ the first game was the controls and I feel they really did a good job on revamping them for the 2nd. The multiplayer is where this game shines though, and they have additional modes to play on two that were not on the 1st. But I would like to play Fragile Alliance w/ the new controls. It's a lot of fun. You never know who is going to turn, if they are, or when. You never know if it's right at the start, after you grab the money, or after a certain someone named ChristianHarper cheers another friend to kill you b/c they are already dead and can't split the loot so, like a devil on the shoulder, convince the one other person, who you thought was a friend, to shoot you in the back as you are getting in the getaway van and steal all your loot. That prick!

Psst....we'll be handing out some codes for some of the games we talked about this episode. Codes for Avatar Pinball, Platformance: Castle Pain, and Hydro Thunder will be showing up via our Twitter, Facebook, and maybe even here on the boards in the next few days. Keep an eye out kids!

How about a Arctic Thunder Booth, being blown by a machine would mean less money spent on the slightly better half and more for games :P
Sorry that was low, i know.

Looks like the air was on the top, not lower as I had remembered. Maybe that was just because of the seat rumble.

So the way 'fro described Castlevania on the show it sounded like Shadow of the Colosus in the Castlevania universe. Well obviously it was not. I played the demo and I ....it pains me to say this I hate it I love Castlevania absolutely love it . I had the import of Dracula X for the Saturn that's how much I love it. I either have outgrown the games or they have gotten boring. But I think I have outgrown them because I think if this came out on the ps2 for example I might have been all over it. To be honest last year I gladly jumped all over the Summer of Arcade and picked up every one. Even though I suck at trials and don't really play it I do not regret getting them all. This year though I may end up getting none and saving my space bucks and enthusiasm for Comic Jumper and Hydrophobia (I've been avoiding stuff about this game because I want it to be Shadow Complex) and whatever else comes up this fall. We had talked before when the lineup was announced about Comic Jumper not being included and some of the other big games coming to XBLA and they didn't need the push. For me the reverse happened and knowing those were coming helped me dismiss the Summer lineup had these games not been known I might not have felt the same way.

Woah...I'm sorry if I gave that impression. I would never even put them in the same train of thought. What did I say that made you think of SotC?
It's not you. Castlevanaia: HoD is NOT for everybody, and in fact I would say it's not even for all Castlevania fans. It's a MUCH different kind of game than anything they've put out before. I'm oddly addicted to playing it in small chunks and grinding through, but it is exactly that, a grind. Honestly had I had to sample the demo and then purchase I'm not sure I would've been able to get into it enough to warrant such.

I was reading inbetween the lines too much I didn't think graphically it was like that but you said it was basically boss battles and getting to them didn't really mention the other enemies. Later I started to think that wasn't what it was but you know sometimes you hear things completely different then others and that's what gets stuck in your head.

I'm enjoying Castlevania. I wouldn't say it is the best game out there ever, but it is enjoyable for me. Co-op is a mandatory, but even playing w/ randoms it is hard to have a bad experience b/c of how the game is set up so that everyone shares the treasure. My problem is just that, the treasure. Where's the wpns that are going to destroy regular characters in one hit? Others say that you get better wpns after you beat the game and play through on hard, but say that hard is really HARD!! So the grind is what adds life to this game and the desire to find those better, rare wpns and armor. I can finally beat the first lvl on my own, so I grind that to get money and use my spells constantly to lvl them up. But like Fro said, it is not for everyone. :D
