Title: Left 4 Dead II

So, I was a bit underwhelmed with the first level, Price Chopper.
But then the Dark Carnival level . . . HOLY F***ING SH**! That was some intense crap! The level design is sweet (roller coaster, tunnel of love, etc), they have you do some crazy fun stuff, and the very last event before you get into the chopper may be one of the greatest things I have seen in a game ever!
I'm not sure any of the other levels are going to live up to it, but I sure hope they do!

Another weird thing, I am also under the impression I will be playing a ton more Co-op than versus in this game. This surprises the crap out of me as I was playing VS 3-4 nights a week for awhile on the first game.
This might all be bull crap, as I think i am going to love playing the Jockey!!!!
Very very interested to try out out some of the multiplayer games this weekend if any buttheads are up for it.
Superfro33 - November 19, 2009 08:21 AM (GMT)
Did the Carnival tonight. Right there with you sir. I thought it was amazing. We were in the middle of that finale and I was all "You know...this is pretty ####ing awesome right here!" B)
And we made it though the campaign with the gnome! Big ups to Heath for the heads up on it even being an achievement! Took a lot of work and was pretty hilarious at the same time.
"Who's got the gnome?!"
"Where's the gnome?!"
"#### COACH, let him die! Do we have the gnome?!"
Avatar reward get! <_<

I'm so bummed I want this so bad. The Best Buy close to me was sold out of the 360 version and well *PC, um no thanks*. Have to hit up some Wallyworlds later I guess.
Gratz on the gnome though. You boys have fun sporting those pink tshits on your avatars :P

I have been fighting the urge to buy this for the last two days... I've driven by Walmart, Target, Shopko and Best Buy three times a day just knowning that L4D2 is probably sitting in there ready for me to buy. And all you do is post about how cool it is. Thanks a lot, Jerks.

I could cry about it some more, in an attempt to turn you off of it.
But actually. Any crying I do about it now is of the fact I didn't get a chance to play it last night.

yesterday was the wife's birthday. she wanted to rock. i cannot deny her. Zogwretch played with us and in between songs we would say to each other "oh, awful clever just got on." Couple songs later "dude, 8bucks just popped on." Another song and "did you see clever was 49?" Oh, the sacrifices we make for love and duty ...

funny story, my wifes Birthday is tomorrow. Yeah, unfortunately I had to drop out shortly after 8bucks logged in...

So I played a bit of vs. yesterday and I to have say that the addition of these new special infected makes it a bit more hectic. I think theres way more emphasis now on staying close together than in the first one because i had this happen twice yesterday with my team where one of us would just split from the team a little bit and all of a sudden he was incapped and we would try to get to him but as soon a one of us was alone the spitter would split us up and next thing you know where all getting charged and pulled and whatnot.
So what are you stories of sorrow or opinions on being left 4 dead(twice) on this one?
Also I have to say that I have grown a soft spot for the gnome as I was the only one in my team that carried it through the rest of the campaign. I guarded it like a mom grizzly bear.
johneightu - November 20, 2009 04:58 AM (GMT)
Hard Rain is another great set of levels! The rain storms, flooding and witches make for one intense level. I love how you backtrack through where you been. I couldn't figure out why there would be 8 health packs at a safehouse . . . well, then you come back to it! :)
I had a great moment where you are calling for a lift to take you down, and are fighting off the horde. Me and the AI get through the horde, and I make a run for the lift. In L4D2, your computer players are a little more independent and just don't follow you (and they will run off to get ammo and such, heal near a med pack to pick up the med pack). So two join me join the elevator, and as the other is just about to step on, a charger hits him, grabs him and takes him running off the side of the building, dropping about 100 feet to the ground, where he pummeled him to death before we could get him! It was such a horror movie moment, it F*cking ruled!
prof_dresser - November 20, 2009 01:23 PM (GMT)
Word of warning: Signed In #31, may make you want to get L4D2 immediately, if you don't already have it. I know it has for me... <_<

Was able to pick this up yesterday and absolutely LOVE IT!! Loved the fact that they increased the difficulty on it as even easy can be difficult at times. The achievement for Expert Realism? I'm not sure I can psyke myself up enough to do that one. Was able power through all 5 campaigns with some friends but I died at the very end of the Swamp one just a few yeards away from making it to the boat. :( (Guess I gotta do over that one) I think my favorite campaign of the 5 is Hard Rain as none of us had any clue where we were going when it poured. I think we spent more time getting lost. Frustrating but was really fun!
snakeheadfish - November 20, 2009 03:48 PM (GMT)
Finally got to finish the first campaign. That was pretty satisfying. After attempting to play it three times and being denied due to lag a couple nights ago, it was a great relief and a load of fun. Although I'm finding the other survivor AI a bit lacking at times, this was few and far between. We really would have had a better go at things had we had two more players.
We only experienced lag once during the very beginning of the second campaign. This was on a dedicated public server. So we restarted the level on the local server and finished a third campaign as well, with no lag at all.
I think L4D2 focuses way more on having fun and not so much the horror aspect as did the first episode. Carnival games, rock concerts, honking clown noses, silly infected nicknames, slack jawed yokels, fidgety fiddle music ... it's all a hoot. At least one survivor (once we had three players), did not escape the level, each time. This was even on easy. As Court says, it's still a bitch. Well, she didn't say it like that exactly. Anyways, I can't wait to go back and replay those levels again with the intent of everyone making it out alive.
I never got into the versus modes with the first game. Would like to try it out if for no other reason than to play one of them little jockey freaks. Any interested parties hit me up.

That is what I miss about the first game... It's SO much fun when everyone is lost and it get super chaotic.
You all are dirty enablers, I might cave this weekend...

I was hungry for the shirt/cheevo last night but wasn't exactly clear on what needed to be done. Plus one guy in the party didn't want the focus to be on the carnival games or the gnome his first run through the level. I did manage to do the strongman game but was left in the dust by the other players and had to scramble to catch up.

I played some Scavenge tonight, and holy hell is that what I wanted Survival to be in the first place! It is chaotic and brutal while being short and sweet, and it lets you play as both survivors and infected . . . just pure, plain fun!
I also continued my trend of being the most effective person on my team in a game of Versus and getting the boot by my team mates because I do not have a microphone, and they obviously can't remember the 10 dozen times I shot an infected off of them, or gave them some pills, or how I did 900 points of damage as a hunter compared to their 100. This is coming across as bragging, but I am not, I am actually terrible at the game, but I never get booted when I am sucking it up, only when I am rocking! :)
Court - November 24, 2009 05:45 PM (GMT)
Scavenge is BRUTAL! Lots of fun though.

Seemed a lot better today for me in VS and in Scavenge.

johneightu - November 26, 2009 04:15 PM (GMT)
This game is too hard . . . I'm a wuss who hates replaying a level 4 times to beat it.
But I am also a zombie lover who cheers whenever I die because the zombies won!
I'm torn!

How can you not love this game. Everytime I play it, I end up laughing and having fun.
Need more 'friends' on who play it. <_<

What do you guys think of the difficulty? I've heard some complaints that it is frustratingly game-breakingly difficult even on easy.
I haven't tried it yet but I got into L4D1 last night and that was awesome. I'm just nervous about L4D2 being frustrating.

It is not THAT bad, but Normal can take several tries to get through some of the tough spots. Some of the finales on Normal in L4DII are harder than Hard on L4DI.
Good stuff . . . my comment was more joking than serious, although the game is much, much harder.

[Hijack]L4D1 IS Awesome! For the record, I got the Tank stumble achievement the next day doing EXACTLY what we had been doing :( [/Hijack]
If anyone wants to play the L4D2 demo some time, I'm game. I'm up for the real deal after Christmas :)

It's definately harder. We've been playing on easy and it is anything but. The endings are rough and I'm never surprised when one of us doesn't make it. They really throw the horde at you. Even though you're on easy, they still throw multiple tanks at you, at once.
We got pretty fed up with the bridge crossing in the Parish campaign. After 5 failed attempts we gave it up for the night. It probably would have gone better had we a full group of players, the A.I. character kept getting lost or something, he was damn worthless.
So the frustration is there. It all boils down to whether or not you let that affect your enjoyment of the game.
jessej07 - November 30, 2009 05:17 PM (GMT)
Chris Grant at joystiq has
made the case that the difficulty, especially on "easy," takes the fun out of the game.
I haven't played it yet, but I think the AI "director" in the first game was part of what made L4D such a great experience. It sounds like it has had quite an overhaul for L4D2 which makes me worried.
I can't imagine dying over and over on the easy setting... I think it would really frustrate me.
snakeheadfish - November 30, 2009 05:44 PM (GMT)
Maybe I should trade in L4D2 and get the original back. I regretted trading it in even as I did so. Plus the survivor characters in the first game are a heck of a lot cooler than these four new fools.
johneightu - November 30, 2009 07:49 PM (GMT)
I have this nagging feeling there will be a system update for "Very Easy" to appear as an option . . .
Mojo - December 2, 2009 03:02 PM (GMT)
Anyone interested in getting the complete all campaigns on expert achievement on this? Just need 3 more people so it will go a lot smoother in getting it for everyone. I already have Dead Center and the Parish done but I'll definitly do those two over to help others that still need them. I wasn't having much luck in my clan getting this organized.

That sure will backfire, because the second you do we'll pick up L4D2. I'm sure L4D1 is going to appear on the cheap (if it already hasn't) so you can scratch that itch when needed.
Gamestop is always doing that buy 2 used get 1 free deal (or so it seems) you could use that to your advantage.
