Title: How does your league handle forfeits?
Randroid - May 3, 2011 12:04 AM (GMT)
We're on our fourth league season in our local league and the forfeits are really piling up. It sucks and throws off everyone's schedules/rankings/games.
Just wondering how other leagues out there handle this? Maybe this is a question for a future show...

I agree that this could make a great topic on a future show!
These are the rules we use in the critical hit cup:
Forfeit Rules:
Forfeiter loses 1 fan factor
Any Players with 51 or more SPP will leave the team on a 1d6 roll of 1-3
The coach forfeited against gains:
2d6 total Winnings
An MVP selected using the normal MVP rules
Two TDs to be given to any desired player(s)
Forfeit may be grounds for dismissal from the league
This is a slightly modified version of the rules from the rulebook. We changed from 2 mvps to 1 mvp and 2 TDs as teams that had forfeits against them ended up having their differential adversely affected.

I assume that the one who is forfeiting loses their MVP also.

What sort of allowances do your commissioners give players to get their games in?
Vitamin T - May 3, 2011 12:59 PM (GMT)
The coaches have 2 weeks to complete their matches. Games that are not finished after two weeks are subject to forfeit. If people contact the commish and let them know what is going on and that they have made some kind of arrangements to have their match finished they can get some extra time.
Yeah the forfeiting coach doesnt get an mvp or winnings.

I play in the same league as Randroid and that sounds very similar.
We have had a ton of late season forfiets this time around
Vitamin T - May 5, 2011 10:00 PM (GMT)
We have had past season when we were very forgiving about the due date for games as well as past seasons where we left almost no room for forgiveness. The current case by case evaluation system has worked the best for me.

Rat City (and Thunderbowl) use the concession rules for forfeits, but without the Star Players leaving the team part. In conjunction, we use a Yellow Card/Red Card system.
If a coach elects not to play a match (or makes himself unavailable), he gets a Yellow Card. If it happens again, it's a Red Card. Red Card means the coach is ejected from the league for the rest of the season (effectively conceding the rest of their matches), and may not be allowed back at the commissioner's discretion. If it's something outside of the coaches control, they'd be let back in without a second thought. If they aren't taking the schedule seriously or just flake out without good reason, no real reason to keep them in the league.
Both leagues run with a set 10 game schedule followed by playoffs/finals every season. If you're interested in the rest of the structure you can check it out here:
