S T O R Y The world has fallen into a desolate existence that one only dreamed of in the past. This world is nothing but deserts and polluted land areas, the oceans suffering just as much as the once lush landscapes did over five hundred centuries ago. The hot and humid lands scorch away the greenery, the cracked earth completely desolate of life. There is one area, however, one city within its own bubble. The structure, built and maintained in Washington, contains a community of people living their lives without a worry. ECHELON is the superior power of the days, taking control of the only aboveground city in existence. The inhabitants, the civilians, go about their day without a care in the world, following the inhibitions to live to the fullest. They are the innocents in this new world – they know nothing and do not know their power, their potential to break free from the cage. Conversations are unknowingly monitored by the advanced technology, the food and diet of the people regulated in such a way no truly notices the simplicity of it all. A curfew is set only a few hours after the burning sun sets in the west, leaving the streets empty and cold. There are always two sides to a coin, this we know. The Zodiuns are inhabitants of the underground, the people who have views worthy of ECHELON’s attention, and are very much against the government. They seek to overpower the government, expose the truths that no one sees. They witnessed the turn of the world, the transformation from the free lands to ruins. They were those who had an opinion in the beginning, and who refused to conform to the changes. To the Zodiuns, the End of All Days was the beginning of the fall. The Zodiuns were the ones to believe that things would go wrong; they knew that America’s own would one day turn on them and commit mass genocide. I N . T H E . B E G I N N I N G At the turn of the millennium, the Americans birthed a conspiracy. America, power-hungry, lost its control of itself, only wishing to take over the world. They did not care if they conveyed something quite the opposite of a "positive" image. This is what drew ECHELON out of hiding, their ways of thinking simmering in the background for decades, realizing that instead of putting forth with this masquerade they could take over; render the world's defenses useless and move in for the kill – quite literally. ECHELON, over many, many years, before and during the planned actions happening across the world, had gathered and stored the DNA of plants, animals and molecular information that came from water, natural gases and metals. They were going to build a world on top of the one they were in now, predicting it would one day be decayed from battle. They wanted to shape a new society that fit their dream. It was perfection that they were going for; controlled and quelled. Strongly advising against ECHELON and their ideals, the President of America, for once, protested against the radical decision to execute every human that wasn't in the image of the perfect human. ECHELON merely retaliated by releasing their blood-hungry AEON soldiers upon the existing military, taking out the Air Force and Army before the Navy and finally the Marines. It is thought that a small group of the soldiers from these military branches escaped to sea, but with the nuclear radiation that they would soon face, it unlikely that they survived. With the United States military out of the way, ECHELON moved in for the climax of their novel, removing the President from office and beginning their long awaited, progressive project. Taking out the governments of the larger foreign powers was their next objective; Russia, China, Japan, Germany, France and Great Britain. Since ECHELON had not the manpower to commit such an act, they decided to use their intellectual and technical side to destroy the other world powers one by one, like dominos. Russia was the first go, turning the large country against itself until Civil War erupted and it tore apart from the inside out. Their conflict stretched over to China, who was on the edge of self-destruction as well. They did not need to waste time, however, as this country fell with the heat it was surrounded with. Japan's economy dropped from the surrounding explosions, crushing those that depended on Japan's manufacturing, and over years they all withered and finally died out. Nuclear radiation carried over from Russia and other countries that used to house the weapons of mass destructions, further sending the world to oblivion and creating the barren land of today. Caught up in all of this, Cuba was the country to make the first blow against America. In retaliation to the all out United States-declared World War, Cuba used the last of its missiles to wipe out nearly the entire United States. They believed it was the end of the American threat, that there would be no stopping the tedious process of cleaning up the precious land of Earth; they were wrong. Making humans docile was easy – the only thing that needed to be watched for was rebellion. After the world sank into desolate, radiated territory, ECHELON emerged from the underground, beginning construction on the first city that the new world would see. The cleansing of the new world completed, ECHELON ignored any and all remaining humans that were different than the specimens chosen, and let them be to die out eventually. At least that is what ECHELON's believed would happen. The city of Washington, like all the new cities, was stocked with cloned animals, plants and even faux landscapes that were provided through several technological advances. It gave the illusion of a real world. The humans that had survived didn't care much, most of them only caring about their new home. Nor did they mind it when ECHELON started to genetically restock the new cities that were built with humans that had been altered in a very dramatic way. Due to genetic splicing, scientific selection and computer analysis, most diseases were removed from the strains of human DNA. Imperfections were whittled down one by one until the new government, ECHELON, was satisfied. The new “humans” were perfect; tall, lean, athletic, and everything needed for armed forces and ECHELON employment. These new "humans" were renamed the Ariuns. Outside of the cities, the remaining humans from before the End of All Days thrived, evolving to adapt to the harsh conditions of the outside world. They developed a decreased need for food and water, keeping themselves healthy for days on end without the use of one drop of water or bite of food. Their hair color, on the other hand, is of every shade excluding blond (since blond was chosen by ECHELON as a perfect color). Their eyes are a gray hue and render them color-blind. At the same time they have greater peripheral vision, further seeing distance and even a tone of night sight that gives them the advantage over the Ariuns. These people call themselves the Zodiuns. O U R . P R E S E N T . D A Y Five hundred and eighty years have passed since the End of All Days. The Zodiuns continue to struggle with ECHELON and AEON, wishing to regain the lost lands of their ancestors and restore order to how the world is supposed to be. But ECHELON has other plans. They have begun scientific experimentation on Zodiuns that were captured and not terminated. Only a few were kept, to avoid any sort of suspicion from spreading among the Ariuns. It wasn't as if they would care, but even ECHELON knew that its people could possibly gain their own version of thought. The Zodiuns are used for genetic experimentation, viral weapons testing, and the research of their adaptation to be replicated. If ECHELON could simply find the reason behind the evolution and replicate it, they could move out into the world and start to rebuild it all with no worries as to radiation...or death. Zodius, the community of Zodiuns, stands strong, having built up its foundation as the Rebellion over the last five centuries. Now they are making their move, taking all Zodiuns, those who share their way of thinking, those they know belong to their culture, from the cities and securing their safety in the safe houses the rebels have formed under the ECHELON-built cities, hidden in the tunnels that were once subways and sewers. Though it's only a matter of time before ECHELON discovers them and obliterates the opposition.
