This is where people will post information about a rumored KOTOR 3, and I (or another member) will debunk such rumors. I'm sad to say that right now, there is no KOTOR 3. Period. (Or, "Full Stop", if you're British.)

Any K3 rumor you see out there, as of Monday, 23 October, 3:00 AM GMT, are completely false.

Howeber, that does not mean that you should lose hope. If you want to go on deluding yourself that K3 is being made as we speak, go ahead (I still don't accept the existence of Midichlorians).

If you come across any new information, then post it here.

OK, let's get started...

First off, LA, Bioware, and Obsidian have all stated individiually that they not currently working on KOTOR 3. Bioware is not interested; they want to focus on independent projects (IPs) right now. Obsidian has stated that they would gladly make K3; in fact, they asked for permission from LA back in 2005. There was a report way back that LA fired its KOTOR 3 staff; most likely, Obsidian got to work on K3, but LA cancelled the project.

Rumor # 1
"KOTOR 3 is to take place 14 years after K2, blah, blah, blah, developed by Bioware."

This has been confirmed to be a hoax.

Rumor #2
"A friend of a friend told me that Pandemic recently purchased the rights to kotor3.com, in partnership with Bioware. Some guy he knows has been hired to design the site, which will become public Summer-Fall '07, after Mass Effect comes out."

First, it's now late October; still no KOTOR 3 website. Second, I did a bit of snooping and discovered that kotor3.com is owned by some company called INNERWISE, INC, which owns the rights to hundreds of website names. Finally, Bioware's KOTOR website is kotor.bioware.com, and thus it wouldn't be kotor3.com.

Rumor #3
Anything that says "KOTOR 3 is coming out Christmas '08" is false.

Rumor #4
"KOTOR 3 is being made, because someone at LA 'We’ve also got Star Wars franchises like Knights of the Old Republic and BattleFront that we will not leave behind. It’s very important to us that we grow those franchises.'"

This was said by one LA employee (Nancy MacIntyre, VP of global sales and marketing) and only in passing. It's from this that all the rumors stem. All it says is that LA plans to make K3 eventually. And it doesn't even say that; McIntyre says that they will grow the KOTOR franchise; it doesn't say that they're making KOTOR 3. There is an ongoing KOTOR comic series which has become quite successful. LucasBooks hired the lead writer of KOTOR, Drew Karpyshyn to write Darth Bane: Path of Destruction; a sequel is in the works. George Lucas has speculated on making a KOTOR era TV series, assuming the Star Wars TV Series and the Clone Wars Series are successful. Don't those all qualify as 'growing the KOTOR franchise'?

Rumor #5
KOTOR MMORPG - A game magazine reported that this was confirmed "by a source close to Bioware". What the hell does that mean? Why hasn't Bioware itself confirmed it? Well, Bioware has admitted that they are working on an MMORPG. They have not said that it is in any way related KOTOR. This is very unlikely, as they would have to get LA's permission to do it--which is even more unlikely now that LA's rival EA has bought out KOTOR and Pandemic. The most likely scenario is that the MMORPG will turn out to be a Bioware IP (maybe an online version Mass Effect, or something similar). However, the fact that the MMORPG is scheduled to come out in '09 does make some sense if it were a KOTOR MMORPG, as the Star Wars TV Series begins in Fall '09, and a successful video game would pave the way for the series quite effectively.

LUCASARTS/BIOWARE PROJECT

LA and BioWare have announced that they are working on a project together.

It could be KOTOR 3, it could be a KOTOR MMO, it could be just about anything. Here's to hoping it's K3.

wookieepedia said something about a KotOR MMO but I can't confirm it...

Oh,yeah, here's my thoughts. (priceless, I know...)
I trully believe that if KotOR 3 will be made, it will be released shortly before the live action series premieres. Why? Because people will get more interested in Star Wars, ergo, there will be more poeple wanting to see the live action series. cool.gif
Of course, they might release BF3 instead

Agreed. It's not a question of if, but when. LA waited five years between JK1 and 2.

As for the MMO...

Wookieepedia has a link to the same thing I mentioned (in their news section of the Main Page), but that report has not yet been confirmed by either LA or Bio.

And after 2.5 weeks, LA hasn't realeased any more information regarding their mystery project with Bio. I'm disappointed...

Really? Well, I guess I don't really know much about Battlefront--but I thought KOTOR had a bigger fan base.

Me too! biggrin.gif

Ah...so they're probably on the same level...though LA will probably prefer to make BF3, as the first two sold more.

Okay, this is my first post on these forums...yeah, I know it probably should've been in some kind of welcome thread, but what the hey...anyway, on topic I wanna say that I agree with what JC said: KOTOR 3 release is a question of when, not if. I mean, the first two KOTOR's were massive hits as all of us here know...I don't think LA are stupid enough to not launch it, especially considering the fan-base these games have. And look at the general success K2 had, even though it WASN'T complete. Well anyway, just my 2 cents. biggrin.gif

I think it goes beyond saying that LA wont abandon the KOTOR era of things as is evident in how popular its become despite the fact that only a small percentage (of the ginormous amount of SW fans) even know the full story surrounding Revan and the Exile and the era in which they live.

The problem I see if the rumors of a KOTOR MMO are true. While a good idea on paper, making such a game without having legions of fanboys invade is next to impossible. Having played Lord of the Rings Online and being a big fan of Tolkien's Middle Earth, I couldn't help but be turned off by the countless elves named 'K33lguy' in the game or something similar.

Can you imagine a KOTOR MMO with tons of Jedi's named "TheForceFTW" and such. Trust me, the true fans wont name their characters that but the countless casual players will and if Bioware follows the WoW model of things, its inevitable.

What appeals to me the most about the KOTOR is the Roleplaying feel of the game. As much as I'd like to experience many planets and huge worlds with others, I feel the overall quality of the writing and story will suffer for it.

So here's to hoping KOTOR 3 is in the works or at least a possibility.

Mr Ward Resigns!
Will this help or hurt K3's future?

A bunch of images rumored to be concept art for K3

http://s226.photobucket.com/albums/dd239/TheRoundPeg/KOTOR3/

My guess is that it is concept art from K3...from way back in '04 before LA fired the K3 team.

MMO Info and New RPG by Obsidian
Well, as some of you may know, there's a lot of circumstantial evidence suggesting that there's an MMO in development. Here are a few links:

BioWare Austin talks about the MMO - old news, but it's still interesting

Here's the engine they'll be using

They got the title right a full year in advance, so the rest might be legit - also old, but still interesting

And to add to that, Obsidian has just announced an as of yet anonymous RPG (not an RTS; that was just a typo). So it might be good news for those of us banking on a K3 single player RPG, as opposed to an MMO.
