Last bud to bloom. It took long enough <_<

(Posted Image)

I had two buds total on the plant and no signs of any more. I'm guessing that the location and probably fertilizer came into play here. Overall, not much care goes into these other than making sure the planter is topped off with water and a mosquito dunk added when needed.

Beautiful, T. I'm glad you finally had success in getting to enjoy those beauties..

BTW, you sure are getting a late summer. I see your temps are in the 90's.

Boy DP, you got that right. I was afraid that summer was going to miss us completely here in the Northwest. I tell you one thing, I have been enjoying every minute that I can of this sun and I will not complain about the warm days. :zipit:

Btw, isn't it time for us to see a pic of your pond all in bloom? Hint, hint ;)

I got my lotus repotted here a week ago and it's already sending up areals. I am puzzled by that since the weather has been so crappy and cold. Maybe the lotus figured out that it will just have to suck it up and get used to it. I moved it a different location and hope I like it better here.

Wish my pond was bigger. I was at a pond store the other day and they wanted $50 for a lotus.

Good luck with yours.

Melaine, my lotus is not in the pond. I had it next to the pond last year but this year I moved it. I'll try to get a pic today to post.

I have a couple of tubers floating in the tub right now that are looking for a new home . I could put them in a priority mail box & the new owner could pay the postage if it grows. Just throwing it out there.....

Many people grow lotus in their own separate containers since they are heavy feeders they don't want to risk the fertilizer escaping into their pond water feeding an algae bloom. One planting formula uses Horse manure, aged of course. Wonder who has some of that handy?

Well keep in touch about the tubers. I would gladly pay the postage.
Thanks T :)

Hmmmm, might be me
If I do get a plant I would love to see the formula.
I will have to go back and read up on the posts to see what you all did to grow one outside the pond. :noclue:

If I do get a plant I would love to see the formula.

I potted mine in composted cow manure but if I had horse I would use that. If you have recently wormed your wee ones I would shy away from those "piles" since I don't know if the wormer would cause any problems with the tubers. Just find some "old stuff".

Just put some manure in the bottom of a big tub then some good old dirt on top. I go for 5 inches of dirt just cause that is what I read and gives me more room in the pot for water. I use about 1/4 cup of Osmocote just cause that is what I read. I had more success by just laying the tuber on top of the dirt and then laying a flat stone on too and let the tuber root itself.
You want a big tub and you don't have to bury it like I did. I just didn't want to look at the tub. Oh, and don't forget the mosquito dunks to keep the pesky buggars out.

I would suggest that you figure out fairly soon if you really want to tackle one this year before they get growing much since the growing tips are really susceptible to breaking. This is one reason that I said that the person that wants the tubers only has to pay for postage if the lotus grows. I have never shipped one before so I don't know what will happen to the tips during shipping.

All of this being said, I'm not real sure that I am in love with the lotus. I know lots of people go on and on about them. I didn't get lots of blooms (could be I didn't fertilize enough of just the nature of the beast) and I wasn't too impressed. The leaves are very nice though and add a tropical feel so that is the main reason I'm trying again for what it's worth.

If you are intersted just PM me your addy and I'll get what I have to you.
