Yes but fish do really help keeping pest from attacking your lotus or lilies so when you grow them in small containers you have to keep a close eye on the nasty bugs or they will make short work of your plants plus they keep the skeeters from becoming a problem. One small goldfish will work no filtration is necessary.

I got one of those skeeter dunks in there now. Lord knows I have plenty of small gold fish I could throw in there. Worse then rabbits those guys are....

My lotus has two blooms so far. I'm thinking that will be about it for this year. With all the cold weather we had it got off to a slow start. Last year I had lots and lots of leaves.

And while your plants suffered from cold weather, I lost a tree next to my pond due to the excessive hot, dry weather we had all summer.

We have lost a Norway spruce tree this summer. :'(
