Title: Potting lilies with rocks

Do any of you top off your lily pots with pea gravel?
How do you pot up your's?

Today I re-potted mine and I just used some big rocks to top off with some smaller ones (about 1" inch or so around) to fill in the gaps and dropped the pot in the pond. I did have some dirt that came out when I dropped the pot in the pond but I had that when I used to use the pea gravel.

I have always used gravel the size of a quater to nickel in diameter. That size keeps the gold fish from rooting through the dirt but as the season progresses I find it difficult to poke holes in the clay dirt to add plant tabs. I happened upon a post on another forum where a grower suggested using larger flat rocks to cover the surface moved aside to add tabs and replaced after. Sounds like a winner to me.
