So you've all heard of it, you dealt with the news, but now it's time to discuss it. What's your opinion on the swine flu? Is it the "pandemic of the year" or is it a legitimate concern? Is there anyone affected in your community? What has your local government and school system done regarding the virus? Discuss these questions and more in this topic. If you have any questions, either search for it on here or ask in this topic. Stay polite and on-topic with this matter, as many people have strong opinions on this subject, and we wish to have an educated discussion rather than a incongruous rabble. Discuss. -T-

I heard you don't get Swine Flu from eating a pig. Which begs the question how the hell did that first person get the Swine Flu.
...ANEHWAY.
According to a super-intelligent friend of mine... He says the Swine Flu is actually "mixed" with the regular flu... Or something... I don't remember 100%. Do you, tam?
Here's a quote by WPM (the maker of PokéBeach)
| QUOTE (Water Pokémon Master) | | The whole swine flu "epidemic" is one of the most blown-out-of-proportion news stories of the year. There's nothing else major going on in the world this week, so the media has to find something to shove down our throats. More people die from drunk driving, smoking, the "regular" flu, and probably the most random ways to die than the swine flu (yet you don't see people emptying out their alcohol or trashing their cigarettes, you see them needlessly slaughtering pigs instead). Want to be safer from the swine flu, and pretty much any other sickness? Wash your hands several times a day with soap and don't shake your opponent's hand before a TCG battle like the rules mandate. Use your shirt to open doors. Stay away from sick people. Wipe the public toilet before you sit on it to unload. Don't kiss that strange boy, girl, or animal you have the hots for. Just use the common-sense advice yo momma taught you! |

Everyone in my school is so frightened about this Swine Flu since there was a case of it in a town that is 40 minutes away from my town. I'm not really scared about it, the news is what's making the Swine Flu seem like such a big deal.

There's been a ton of cases here... but the number goes down dramatically when you take illegal immigrants looking for treatment out of the equation...
m19, the Swine Flu is actually the Spanish Flu from the beginning of the last century. The Spanish Flu took on plague-like proportions in Spain. The thing is though, all flus are connected, all of them have a common ancestor (technically) that they all mutated from, hence the reason all flus give us the same symptoms. Really, the flu itself usually isn't the thing that kills us, much like the HIV virus. The flu weakens us and allows other problems, like pneumonia, to finish us off. The flu frenzy is ridiculous, but at the same time, if we respond too late to a REAL epidemic, then we'll be screwed.

Um... can someone please tell me why people die from the swine flu more in México than in the U.S...? There ARE some deaths in the U.S and some other countries (I think) but why...? O_o
Ever since the swine flu started I got scared, but after then, I'm like.. ignoring it now.

Mexico is much less sanitary than other countries, so secondary infections for those that are ailing from the flu is more prevalent. Other countries, are much more sanitary. People in the United States have the luxury of running water, being able to bathe and shower, and can afford luxuries like lysol and anti-bacterial hand sanitizer. And of course, countries like Japan and China have a fear of having contact with other humans, so they remain even more sanitary than even the United States...

I stopped worrying about the swine flu the minute I heard of it. It's just one of those diseases that pop up for a week then die down and noone thinks of them anymore. Like last year it was MRCA.

And the bird flu? And the West Nile Virus? And Mad Cow Disease? What happened with those?
But I agree, it's just a flu. The normal flu kills millions of people every year. This swine flu kills a couple hundred and everyone flips out!

The guy said that it is just the standard Flu, that just fused with the swine flu, and picked up a few extra tricks...

... No... the flu is always chaning... swine flu is a spanish flu derivative, and the seasonal flu is considered by some as "The 08-09 Winter Flu" (or whatever they cal it). These two strains though are separate... though you still could get either...

Swine flu, lol. The only reason it's even talked about is because we didn't have a cure for it, which I'm sure we do by now.
Also, you have to be under 3 yrs old or over 75 to die from it. so
heheheheh
