This is going to be a huge project. My idea is, and i've seen AGN has about the same idea, is to port PlanetSide to HL2. Stay with me for a minute.

1.) I would love to do this with support of SOE, and i have a few suggestions that they might accept. If they say no, I would still go ahead with this, with different names on everything.

2.) This is not meant to replace Planetside. I envision this as a training tool for outfits or newbies alike.

3.) This could be used as a test base for ideas on Idealab.

Features:
-A training program. Everyone, i'm sure, will agree when i say the PlanetSide training served little or no purpose, and was way too buggy.
-Outfit Wars. Ever wanted to prove that your outfit could kick your buddies butt? Here ya go.
-Possibility for single player missions/campaign.
-Tool to teach newbies the ropes.
-Most of the same rules as original PlanetSide.
-With permission: A lot of Hayoo's ideas.

Comprimises to make SOE happy:
-To play this HL2 Mod, your steam account must be registered to a valid Planetside Account. A maximum of 3 Steam Accounts can be registered to a single PlanetSide account.
-Nothing done in this Mod will effect content/player data in SOE's PlanetSide.
-Limit of 250 people on a server.
-No full continents will be offered as maps for the Mod.

This would be used by outfits to train their members, practice manuevers, or fight another outfit.

What I can do:(which is a lot)
Animate(Decent)
Code(Very well)
Map(Very well)
Model(Decent)

I am looking for dedicated:
Modelers
Animators
Texturers
Mappers
Coders
Post in this thread if you are interested.

This is a large project that I hope gets off the ground.

Just so you know, the AGN project you mentioned is being done by Tiletron|Hyncharas, a regular here on Idealab. smile.gif

Since you guys are doing similar projects, or at the least will need similar models of the stuff in-game, you might consider teaming up or coordinating efforts.

From a gameplay-side, I doubt that SOE would be happy for us to start making playable stuff for anyone EXCEPT them, which is why I wanted to do them strictly as videos with no multiplayer content. Before I had even announced it officially, I had already started making a site and writing a cinematic script for my idea's first episode. There was also the fact these videos were intended to be part of a petition for a possible "PlanetSide 2" game-idea in the future, so they were essentially meant to put SOURCE's capabilities to its limits in the meantime, while they were making their decision.

But in any event, let's assume for the moment that PSU isn't going anywhere for a while, so I suggest we talk to Marsman about perhaps doing another "Roundtable Discussion" on PlanetSide Chat in a couple of weeks, where we and the Devs basically discuss to fans about what we might do for such a project. Beforehand we could also set up a thread on the PSU Forums to fans for what questions on this subject they might want answers to, and then we could choose from the list of questions when we do it. Given the amount of coverage we might recieve, we could opt to release per-thread questions in a new section of these forums for any we didn't have time to answer.

Other than these forums, however, I have a few things to sort at College first, so I won't be able to sit down and talk to anyone about this in-length before next Friday.

Ok I've read you PM-reply to me. Developers get really, really testy when it comes to their content being used from one engine directly ported into another, as you're basically ripping off the stuff they spent a good deal of time to build. There is also the situation where their engine-architecture may not be compatible with SOURCE, so the file formats for each model probably won't be either...

In other words, yes, we would have to redo all the models they have already done, but in SOURCE as opposed to PS's engine we can provide an identical level of detail to the lithograph-wallpepers, and their artwork they made for the PS: Aftershock advertisements. This means the remaining detail would be done by the image maps (or shaders as they are known) for things like insignias, panel displays, warpgate and shield-effects, etc.

As for the "movies" that I planned, they revolve around 45-minute videos comprised entirely of cutscenes built in SOURCE. People have stated that videos of that length would be quite large, however, with the right compression and the fact I planned 3 sizes for each... I doubt it will be a problem for fans to download, given the response to the PSUMA broadcast.

For cinematic scripts the first would be AGN1 and AGN2 (and some of the Triumvirate), while the second script was meant for AG3 and any remaining material based around that time period (10 years following the collapse). One of the other things that were planned were video-versions of the "propaganda" ads heard during the PlanetSide Chat breaks, and the AuroraCorp ad that made its debut in AGN3.
