The thick green forest outside of Viridian City was full of wild and untouched Pokemon of vast varieties; Caterpie, Weedle, Kakuna, Metapod, Paras, and more... Even the more elusive Scyther and Venonat. Pidgey and Spearow hopped about in the trees above, chirping and singing in the presence of the intruding Pokemon and their Masters. Jack Gaze walked through the shady forest with his Growlithe Sar at his side and an accomplice who wished to see the rare Scyther.
Several Caterpie fled at the sight of a pair of Fire Pokemon; quickly disappearing under a tree trunk. Pushing several branches out of the way, Jack revealed a rather well hidden path, probably created by a wandering Venusaur and then crushed down by other travelers.
"Well, this is the outer ring, we'll need to go further in to find any Scyther." Jack commented to Fiona.

"Well then," Fiona had always loved the forest biomes, "We should get going." Before she could finish her first step a small caterpillar crawled out under her feet, causing her, out of panic for its life, to trip and fall over it.
Cyndi managed to jump off Fiona's shoulder in the nick of time, his back flame now burning. He was ready for a battle but Fiona was still on her face, and by the time Fiona was coherent enough to order Cyndi to do anything the Caterpii had moved off, unseen to her and her Pokemon.
"You see where it went," She brushed some dirt off of her jeans, "I didn't get a clear look at it."

"My best guess would be off into the brush. All I know, is that it was a green worm Pokemon and it was scared as heck by you." Jack laughed as he continued, "You hurt?" Sar growled at the fleeing Pokemon and prepared to Bite one, halting only for orders. Orders which didn't come, and the Caterpie only escaped...

"Yeah, I'm fine." Fiona stood back up, "I hope I didn't hurt the little guy." Cyndi climbed back up onto her back and settled itself in, fire absent from his rear.

"Nah, he got away quick. Their pretty agile, especially since Pidgeotto like to eat them." Jack nodded at Sar as he continued onward deeper into the dark forest.

Fiona chuckled, Pokemon eating Pokemon? No way. It couldn't... No. She pushed the gruesome thoughts out of her head and continued further into the forest with her companion and the other trainer.

The two trainers stepped through the underbrush and Fiona caught sight of someone else a ways away. The young couple appeared to be admiring something, though Fiona couldn’t tell if it was a pokemon or just a pretty tree. Based on what they wore, she figured it was probably nothing that a trainer would value. Not a scyther, that was certain.
Jack ducked under a low-hanging branch and found himself almost face-to-face with a Kakuna hanging from the next tree.

At first Jack attempted to swat the Kakuna away, but the metamorphosing Pokemon merely hardened it's shell in response. "Oh, so that's how it is eh?" Jack backed up and pointed at the Kakuna which still hung right in the middle of the path, "Sar, scare it away!"
The Growlithe growled in response, tilted it's head back and let out a powerful Roar; the Kakuna trembling as it's string then snapped and it fell into a pile of leaves. "That's better than knocking it out."

Fiona followed Jack into the bushes swatting spider webs that had formed in her path. Before the Growlithe roared she managed to cover her ears, protecting herself from deafness. Once the Pokemon hit the ground she turned to Jack and asked, "So, where is this place you were talking about?"

"It's up ahead, it'll be a small ring like clearing caused by wild Snorlax that wandered through. Beyond that is the dark side of the forest; the Scyther live there in a small collective. It gets bad in there, their crafty, and it's all shadows. Pretty ease to get surprised by anything." Jack halted as their trail led to a dead end.
"Dang. Something must have regrown this brush." He glanced around, no evidence of what caused it, "Sar, whip out the Fire power and cut us a path." The orange furred puppy Pokemon barked as it charged ahead of the two, "Your Cyndiquill can help if it wants. It would go faster." A sudden burst of intense flame ignited the air as Sar shot a powerful blast of his Flamethrower attack, Jack slid his glasses more over his eyes.
The forest around them chattered with wild Pokemon that were shocked by the sudden fiery explosion.

Before Fiona could ask Cyndi jumped from her back and shot her own fire into the fray. He didn't want the Growlithe to take any more of the spot lite and was definitely getting jealous.
"So," Fiona sparked up conversation, "There are Snorlax here too?"

"I haven't seen it, but I do know this is it's path between it's napping spots. It sleeps high up in the mountains some where, comes down, sleeps at the pond, and goes back up. It's surprisingly sneaky. Probably why it hasn't been caught yet and no one comes back here." The wind kicked up as something seemed to have detonated, Jack glancing at the cause.
"Shoo, go away." Jack yelled as he flung a rock at a wild Pigeotto that had swooped down and stirred up a Whirlwind near the fire trying to capture escaping prey. The bird Pokemon screeched in response, "Come on, shoo!"

Fiona pondered out loud, "That would be a nice addition to my collection of notes. I've never even heard where they live before."
As the Pigeotto sifted though the flame for its prey Cindi continued her stream of fire into the bush, not noticing that the only thing that lay in front of her was a baron landscape, charred to a crisp.
"Hey Cyndi, cut it out. The bushes are gone." Fiona chuckled.

“Yeah, but so is everything else,” came a voice from behind them. “What are you trying to do, burn down the forest?”
The two turned swiftly around and found themselves talking to a young boy, maybe 13, with a backwards baseball cap and a recognizable trainer belt, complete with six pokeballs. The boy was looking at them with disapproval. “You know there’s plenty of paths already around here. You don’t need to go making your own.”

"The path were cutting is for something you can't find on any other path around here." Jack commented, rolling his eyes behind is glasses; What is this kid, the Tree Guardian or something? What kind of people stalk explorers and then harass them about their expeditions?
Sar growled, Jack lifting a hand to his side at the Pokemon which calmed instantly. "And you are?"

"Oh be nice to the kid, he's just trying to help out mother nature." Fiona piped in, "Were sorry little dude, Jack here just wanted a more direct route into the warren."

“Alex. I’m a trainer around here. Trust me, I’ve been coming to this forest every weekend for the past month. I love it here. What about you? Where are you firebugs from?”

"If I'm not in my home just outside the forest, I'm living in the forest training my Growlithe." Jack sighed, "When I'm not training here, I'm offering medical attention and aid to those who get lost in the deep woods." He shifted the dark sunglasses over his eyes as he pondered to himself.

“Huh. You must live up near Pewter City then? I’m surprised I haven’t seen you around. Maybe you’re just not around when I am. I hope you know what you’re doing,” he said before suddenly hopping forward and beginning to stamp at the spreading fire.

"The kid's probably right," Fiona let a pokeball open in her hand, "We shouln't torch the place." Staryu burst forth, and with a quick nod from Fiona, released his jet across the flames. By the time he was done all that was left of the short fire was char, steam, and mud.
