I was thinking, since this IS Roleplaying Nexus, we should have a brainstorming thread to come up with future RPs that we might want to do. They can be anything, original ideas, based on game/movie/book, or anything else. NOTE: These do not necessarily have to become RPs. This is just a place to bounce ideas off of each other, and if there's enough support for an idea, we might just run with it.

I encourage posting any idea you may have, no matter how obscure. I discourage discounting other peoples ideas. If you don't like something, say why, and discuss a way to make it better.

To kick things off, after reading the Watchmen Graphic Novel, I've been wondering what a top notch Watchmen RP would be like. Might be difficult to get right, however. Thoughts?

ooooohhhhh Watchmen RP. Fun. Would that be similar to a darker version of RtS that would take place here?

Now I have some ideas here. I've already been discussing them with Shardi on MSN, and he loves the idea. I've taken to calling them "Mini-RPGs," simply because they have a very singular focus. How did I come up with them? Well there's this guy, calling himself BloodRunsClear (on youtube) who is incredible at making fake movie trailers. And some of those trailers have made me SALIVATE for the movie that they are promoting, even though they aren't going to come out ever ;_;

However, I got the idea that, since I can't see a movie coming after the trailer, perhaps I can run a roleplay based on the trailer. What does that mean? Well, everything in the trailer must be incorporated somehow, if not exactly how it is portrayed in the trailer. Names (what few are mentioned) must not be changed. Setting, if mentioned, must stay the same, as should theme. Only one exception exists: many movies are about a single central character. That would be expanded (for example, instead of one jedi, we could have multiple jedi) to allow for a multiperson roleplay.

Beyond that, all bets are off. Oh, and if the trailer is for a movie based on a game--I don't have to stick to that game's backstory, unless the backstory is specifically mentioned in the trailer.

So here's the list--I've got outlines written up that I'll post if people show interest in playing roleplays based on the following thirteen trailers.

Doom

Marathon: Durandal

Timeshift

Beyond the Shattered Looking Glass

Diablo (better audio) (better video)

Star Wars: Fallen Knight

Dark Sector

Alice 2

At The Mountains of Madness

The Legend of Zelda

Seven Haunted Seas

Pokemon

NOTES: Dark Sector would be NOTHING like the game. The game's backstory is kinda dumb, so I made it better. The Zelda and Mountains of Madness trailers were not made by BloodRunsClear--the rest were.

I'm really liking the Timeshift idea. Could be weird to RP people with multiple time suits though: what happens when one person hits freeze time a half second before everyone else? How would you tell?

The Watchmen RP would probably either take place after the GN, with new characters, or in a seperate AU with none (Or few) of the existing characters. Characters also wouldn't have powers, a la everyone in Watchmen (With the exception of Dr. Manhattan).

The Pokemon one could be interesting if stuff can actually die and things are more realistic awesome_heug.png

Oh the Pokemon one would be more mature and waaaaay more realistic. And Team Rocket would actually be a menace. (!) tongue.gif

But yeah, I actually really like the Pokemon one. It would be more in the vein of: pokemon battles are very rules-oriented and very commonplace, as like a kind of widespread pasttime/occupational thing--and then there's the dark alleys, where people fight to the death, where people fight against pokemon, and where there are no rules. So yeah, more realistic.

Also, here's what I've got for Timeshift, since you requested it:
Setting: In London, where a subterranean science facility went down when a new technology was created. The year is in the distant future.
Theme: Everything can be changed--even time.
Characters: Scientists or soldiers with superpowered armor.
Outline: In the facility underneath London, several superpowered suits of armor have been created, each with the ability of altering time. The idea is to create supersoldiers to make war useless. However, the suits have never all been on simultaneously before--and during the induction ceremony, when they all activate, the combined fields take out power to the city, and cause the building above them to implode and destroy the facility. Soon the group discovers that they can only function when they stay together, or else they end up on radically different timelines and can never meet again. By the time they emerge from the self-destructing facility, they discover that their suits are not entirely under their control, as they are thrust into the past and future, fighting in World War II, fighting in a war through London's streets against the invading Russians, and then combating a vicious and brilliant scientist who is on to them and is trying to capture their ability to use it to change history...

Q: Do the suits only make large jumps in time, or can they freeze/slow/rewind time as well? If they can, what happens to the others when one person freezes time? Does it freeze it for all of them?

Liking the Pokemon one more. Always wanted to have a psychopath who uses pokemon to kill people awesome_heug.png

Setting: An unnamed world inhabited by pokémon
Theme: "This isn't a game. These people play rough."
Characters: Pokémon trainers, all greenhorns and all in it together.
Outline: The players come together as friends to form a competition amongst each other: they will try to catch as many different pokémon as possible, and when they return home they must have acquired all eight tournament badges. Whoever has the most pokémon upon returning home is the winner. However, not long after their departure, a wrench is thrown into the works. The players find themselves selected by a secret government military sect known as Team Rocket as potential inductees, due to their astonishing ability with pokémon battling. When Team Rocket comes to collect their newest members, a battle begins between the players and Team Rocket as they struggle for supremacy, and ultimately utter victory--as the players learn the dark secret behind Team Rocket. Finally, as they seek to come out victorious against Team Rocket, but also to come out victorious in their own previous competition, they find themselves in a massive tournament whose outcome will be unexpected at best… and devastating at worst.
Names: None

Setting: Hyrule and surrounding regions
Theme: "When these doors open, it will be seven years in the past…"
Characters: Link and his allies, including but not limited to: other elves, humans, and the mystical defenders of Zelda's race
Outline: Link picks up an unexpected power in the market. When he visits the old Temple in Castletown, he encounters a beautiful princess named Zelda, who tells him that doom is already at hand, and now he will go into the past 7 years to stop it. He must find her and defeat the evil Ganondorf. However, to do that he must go through dungeons, castles, forests, and deserts, fighting monsters and circumnavigating traps which threaten not only his life, but the survival of peace itself...
Names: Link ("I have been waiting for you, Link.")

Setting: Wonderland
Theme: "Welcome to a new kind of Wonderland."
Characters: Up to 2 mental patients who have had trauma and thus have found Wonderland. They must be under 16 years of age. All others are residents of Wonderland, all against the Queen.
Outline: 1-2 highly imaginative children go through some traumatizing experience (not necessarily together) and are put in a mental institution. While in said institution, they are visited (separately) by the Cheshire Cat, who leads them down the rabbit hole. They make their way to a twisted adaptation of Wonderland, where their friends cannot be trusted, where anyone could be one of the Queen's spies, and where going against the Queen of Hearts means certain death.
Note: I would alter the setting slightly so it accommodates more creatures.

I don't see why we dont just do something like Marathon like we were planning to do tongue.gif

Alternatively, we could do Assassin's Creed, or maybe.....Madness Combat D:

There WAS an Assassin's Creed RP, made by Lance and I. No one joined. However, I am all for doing one here.

I've actually played some of it, so I know the basic mechanics as to how everything works.

Short version: Build shrine to your God, kill other people and collect souls for your god (blue souls are neutral and can be taken, red souls are hostile and violent and must be converted first) and collect mana to cast spells (from manafountains scattered across the map that you can control by building "Manaliths" on top of that siphon the mana and provide it exclusively for your use, while boosting the output)

Oh, and obviously all your spells are tuned to whatever specialty your god governs and all that.

SPOILERS: The Secret World is essentially just NEN.

Although making a new version of NEN would mean that James would never be able to bug us to join NEN ever again awesome_heug.png

You think he'd stop because there is NEN2 here? LOL! He'd just go ballistic saying we need to tear it down because it's his idea.
