GTA IV Trailer, Eh...

This won't win me any points with R*, but I was pretty unimpressed with that trailer.

Any thoughts?

From a machinima potential (sorry if I have too much m on the brain) what I could see in the trailer is,

the model's eyes at least blinked.
the water was gorgeous.
the skin textures looked much much better as did the atmospherics.

I couldn't tell if he had fully functioning hands with fingers or if his eyes could rotate in their sockets.

And is that supposed to be New York City? I thought Liberty City was New York. I've never played Liberty City Stories, so I only have III to go on, but there was no equivalent of a Statue of Liberty or Empire State building in GTA III. Was there? It's odd to me that they're going back to New Liberty York City for another round. I was secretly hoping I could mow down French people with my Citroen this time around.

Edit: @ceedj, that post was eerie. I suspect the guy works (or worked) for R* and wanted to leak a taste in an imaginative way... Now, who would do such a sneaky thing?

Edit: I just went through the downloaded high-rez version frame by frame in Vegas. There are lots of peds carrying grocery bags and walking arm in arm; some Chrysler 300c's driving down the streets, so it's set in the 21st century; cop cars have LCPD on their sides, so my inquiry above is moot; and way more chubby peds, maybe a cultural statement from the writers.

I got a chuckle from the "Me TV Theater" "All about me" ...reminds me of YouTube; and a movie poster for a film called "I Slept With Your Mother."

I was impressed, but that's me. It just feels like a whole step up from last gen.

Tell us CJ, why were you not impressed?

Oh, and@that dude, the story seems BS, but he was right about it, so I wouldn't be surprised if it was just an interesting way to try and leak it and see how people react.

Meh, I saw it. I'll wait until we know how the game plays until I roll out any judgment, though it was a bit boring.

I think I'm most disappointed with the location; as KJedi (rightly) pointed out at GTAF, it's probably just going to be one city, but massively more detailed for next-gen. Since the 360 doesn't have an HD drive that comes with it out of the box, you're only getting about 7-8GB on a DVD. But as for the location, I mean, this is the 5th time they've gone back to LC:

GTA1 - LC
GTAIII - LC, but 3D
SA - A visit to LC
LCS - Oooo, we're back in LC
GTA IV - This is sounding familiar...

I guess I expected something "different", not LC with a fresh coat of paint. It feels like a Microsoft "upgrade".

Oblivion managed to fit on a single layer DVD thanks to compression technology.

I can see why your disappointed, but me, I'm only a tad disappointed, but at the same time, it looks fantastic. The whole feel of the place has changed by the looks of it. But I've got a big feeling that the layout will be very dense compared to III, and maybe there will be another city to visit.

But who knows, we'll see in a couple of months.. :/

Do you guys remember Upstate Liberty being closed off in all the games that had Liberty as its location? I think we'll be visiting Upstate Liberty (Like I said above) for the very first time and it could open up a brand new world that could be twice as big as the original Liberty City. Didn't you guys ever want to see what Rockstar was hiding up there? I'm guessing the intro of GTAIII will be finally accessible without mods and all that jazz.

Rockstar wasn't hiding anything, it was just never finished. The bank interor from the opening cutscene is located around the outside of Cochrane Dam, but it has no collision data.

Sorry, but I still think they missed the boat big time. So far, I've seen nothing in the trailer to justify buying a next-gen system for it (SA was completely the opposite - I bought that AND a PS2 the day it came out).

I understand that if you don't see the game appealing that you don't want to waste tons of money for a next generation consol. No offense, but if you're a true GTA fan, you'd get it just for the storyline...but again the consoles are very expensive and I completely understand what you mean. What I'm basically trying to say is that if this were to be another GTA game on a system you already own, you'd get it because of the Grand Theft Auto storyline.

Now if the consol weren't the case and you just didn't want to buy it, then I'd question your "love" for the series. I would assume you're a huge fan due to the fact you made the GTA Studio mods and the "PED" video series and I would figure since you're a huge fan that you'd get the game no matter what.

I don't know, I'm always gonna get Grand Theft Auto games no matter what.

I thought the trailer looked pretty sweet. Even though i'm an uber-retro dude that wouldnt mind the next 4 GTA games to look the same as Vice City
Also, if you look closely you see a poster for "America's Top H*oker" (Is the ** needed there?)
