To overcome the freeze/startup problems in GB2 I made the following utility, Kill4Agame.
It can stop all running task on a system.
If certain processes need to be running, like antivirus apps and so on, A file Called Exclude.txt can be edited to hold these program names so that Kill4AGame does not try to stop these application when run.

It can also boost performance on some system if run before running a game

So, just run Kill4AGame before starting your Game/application.

Go here to download it : http://veloci.dk/index.asp?visnu=k4ag/k4ag.htm

well my understanding from other threads is that it keeps all ESSENTIAL processes running, like explorer. i think it mainly stops processes that take up too much memory, and that could slow down or disturb your game.

im pretty sure thats what this is for, but nino would have to confirm

I think the point is anybody with minor computer knowledge could do that. This is designed for people without that knowledge. And it's a bloody good idea, a large portion of release programming errors are caused by third party applications.

Edit: Oh, and on another note Dereistic01, why not use MSConfig to remove the undesired programs from the start list?

Oh. In that case simply use the Run system, type "msconfig", from there go to the "Startup" tab and change what you want to run upon startup. There are also several other useful tools on msconfig.

All the tasks that are essential to windows XP can't be stopped anyways ;-) Also you can just logout/in to your computer to get most of the 3rd parties up an running again. without the need to restart.

Theres a build-in list of application like explorer.exe which the program will not stop. You can add more programs to this list, like you antivirus programs and so on.
Just add the applications that you don't want to be stopped to the Exclude.txt file that is created the first time you run the program.
Most 3rd party applications can be stopped. Its these programs that cause slow startup and minimize performance especially in NON dx-games.
Like Neobros says, use MSConfig to deactivate programs from the startup alltogether.

Ex. of whats in the exclude.txt file :
Kill4AGame.exe
svchost.exe
winlogon.exe
csrss.exe
services.exe
spoolsv.exe
lsass.exe
smss.exe
alg.exe
Explorer.exe

Hope this explains whats its all about smile.gif

Right click on desktop-> Personalize-> Windows Color and Appearance, and that should return auro. If you wish to adjust the visual effects:

Right click on My Computer-> Proeprties-> Advanced system settings-> Performance group, Settings-> Visual Effects.

Vista should automatically turn back on everything after you exit a fullscreen app, no idea why it isn't with you.
