Title: Scariest Movies - EVER!
Description: ITS ALIVE!

djrussell - October 11, 2007 04:03 AM (GMT)
Name the 5 most scarriest films you've ever seen. Even if you dont get scared easy, just name the top 5 you'd recommend (so the rest of us can watch):

1. The Grudge
2. Rose Red
3. The Ring
4. White Noise
5. Jaws

There are some really cool splatter-films out, but they're not really scary.. IMO the supernatural or freaks of nature (JAWS!) are scary - not some dude with an axe chopping people up.

Dave - October 11, 2007 04:24 AM (GMT)
with the exception of The Ring and possibly Jaws (when I was about 10), the ones you listed aren't exactly scary.

Only one I've seen relatively recently that I thought was scary is The Descent. When I was younger, I remember being really scared by Candyman

Naturally we're all gonna find different movies scary.. geez, for instance I didnt think The Descent or Candyman were scary, nor did I find IT scary either so there ya go. We're all different.

brokeyard - October 11, 2007 05:47 AM (GMT)
The 2nd half sucked, but the part when they're kids freaked me out

dereistic01 - October 11, 2007 11:48 AM (GMT)
i cant really think of any movies that scared me. the ring did a little, but not really.

Dawson - October 11, 2007 04:49 PM (GMT)
IT was scary back then...its just cheesy now. But the idea of kids being killed like that was frighting. The Ring wasnt really scary but still a good movie.

Count_Strangle - October 11, 2007 04:59 PM (GMT)
Has anyone seen Basketcase? It is the funniest horror film ever!

I don't really watch scary films, but I've seen 28 Days Later which is good. I get scared easily.

Gothic Embrace - October 11, 2007 05:28 PM (GMT)
I'm not gonna make a list, but I'll talk a bit about scary movies.

Donnie Darko is just very... emotional. scary, sad, funny, romantic... it just goes through the entire spectrum of emotions.
the August Underground series are pretty horrifyingly realistic. 'cos you know, you'll watch them and think "wow, and there are more morbid and evil bastards out there than these sickos" :P
Blair Witch II Book of Shadows is also a very good movie. it fucks with your mind a bit towards the end. I love it.

I don't get scared of death and killing and whatever, 'cos I've grown up with splatters, zombies and all that shit. me an' me bro' had like a whole box of VHSs of the most sick movies out there, all illegal in Norway at the time. they just really crack me up. great fun. I love splatters. but the movies that really "get" to me are those deep ones that are really intense emotionally.

Dawson - October 11, 2007 05:48 PM (GMT)
28 Days later was really really good..but still not scary...i dont think its possible to be scared from a movie after a certain age...you would have to have some sort of fear/phobia to be scarred. The Hills Have Eyes are sick..it was a disturbing film but not scary.

I hate the original Blair Witch, but I enjoyed sequel like you did. It seems to work that way with everyone.

I don't get scared by movies. When I was a kid though:
Child's Play - I had a doll similar to Chucky, I was freaked out by it
Halloween - I would always look around to make sure nobody was watching me

dereistic01 - October 11, 2007 07:18 PM (GMT)
there is really only 1 thing that scares me in movies: dead people in the water that come to life.

like in the shining, the lady in the bath tub.

Gothic Embrace - October 11, 2007 09:03 PM (GMT)
the only thing that really scares me is realistic movies, like the beforehand mentioned August Underground series. zombies and supernatural stuff is just that, supernatural and thus it will never be scary.

drnick - October 11, 2007 09:51 PM (GMT)
i find that the japanese versions of the american re makes are always more scary as the filming tends not to be so smooth and less polished like the jap version of the grudge and ring and ring 2

ben3683914 - October 11, 2007 11:29 PM (GMT)
i find the japenese versions extremely scary too, but for a totally different reason...they are scary because of the freaky voice overs lol

on a serious not, i found the ring extremely scary :( but not the ring 2, and i found the blair which scary but not the second, i thought the second one was rather stupid and disappointing. i also find most chick flicks scary too  :P

djrussell - October 12, 2007 12:35 AM (GMT)
Top 5 people, top 5 lol

ben3683914 - October 12, 2007 01:12 AM (GMT)
meh, its more of a discussion thread now :P

brokeyard - October 12, 2007 08:15 AM (GMT)
i don't have a top 5, so i didn't post them.

a lot of movies have scary concepts with cheesy results.

Count_Strangle - October 12, 2007 10:57 AM (GMT)
Oh yeah, I've seen The Ring 2. I forgot. It wasn't scary. I just don't get scared by films like that, but I do by films like 28 Days Later. I guess it's because 28DL has more "realism" in it (if you describe zombies as realistic. lol).

Halle - October 12, 2007 08:56 PM (GMT)
1. Candyman
2. Candyman
3. Candyman
4. Candyman
5. Candyman

This is the scariest movie EVER !!!!

I watched it with my friend when we were little. We was so scared that we couldnīt even go to the bathroom. You who have seen it knows why...(mirrors)

Dead jesus? I dunno if it'd take dude lol

smoofdude - October 14, 2007 08:23 AM (GMT)
I'd watch it! Also I don't really watch scary movies. Mostly because they are scary. But my theory for not being scared by IT is that if you watch it when you are a kid it is scary but if not it's not. because if you are a kid, you see your own kind getting gruesomely killed by something many children are afraid of. By the time adulthood comes around many outgrow their fear of clowns and when they see IT all they see are the things that annoy them with their skateboarding and rap music.

djrussell - October 15, 2007 12:42 AM (GMT)
Can anyone say Gacy?.. wonder if that was King's inspiration

smoofdude - October 15, 2007 07:37 AM (GMT)
IT was a book before it was a movie. It was published in '86. Don't know when Gacy was released but is it earlier?

djrussell - October 15, 2007 12:00 PM (GMT)
I know it was a book lol Stating the obvious there mate arent ya? :P And Gacy was active between 72-78.

Sarma - October 15, 2007 12:20 PM (GMT)
Can't remember any new movies that scared me, but when I was a kid I had nightmares after watching It and Freddy Kruger (Nightmare on Elm Street).

Siayres - October 15, 2007 12:48 PM (GMT)
IT! *hides*

I hate clowns

I get scared pretty easily by films to be honest. Probably the worst one I've seen recently is 'The Audition'. Psycho woman + cheesewire = pain.

djrussell - October 15, 2007 01:21 PM (GMT)
Wow.. IT really got to a lot of people hey. Hmmm.. thats interesting dont ya think?

Siayres - October 15, 2007 01:24 PM (GMT)
I think a lot of people find clowns sinister, I know I do. Plus there is the fact that the book was pretty damn good, and, for once, translated pretty well onto the screen. The only other one of King's books to really do that was 'The Shining', though 'Carrie' and 'Misery' are pretty good as well.

smoofdude - October 15, 2007 01:38 PM (GMT)
IT was the scariest thing I've ever seen and I've written some pretty scary stuff. I stopped reading halfway through. It was just too scary. I couldn't fall asleep for two nights because of that god damned clown. I kept seeing it in the dark. Then I turn on my lights and it makes is worse because now I see all of it.

Deathknot - October 15, 2007 02:50 PM (GMT)
candyman, any of the old 1920s-30s horror/mystery movies.. they actually have something... a better question would have been TOP 10 horror/moster movies of all time..

1. Psycho
2. Night of the Living Dead
3. Jaws
4. Frankenstein
5. Interview with the Vampire: The Vampire Chronicles
6. House Of 1000 Corpses
7. The Shining
8. The Exorcist
9. White Zombie
10. The Birds

Gee mate i think you missed out a few there:

- The Shawshank Redemption
- The Green Mile
- Rose Red
- Riding the Bullet
- Pet Semetary

and thats just to name a few... King movies can either be really lame or really good. And they're just some of the really good ones IMO (especially the first 3.. amazing films).

brokeyard - October 16, 2007 01:36 AM (GMT)
Better than Michael Crichton movies which all come out lame... not that they're supposed to be scary, but i feel it's related because Stephen King is often one of the cover reviews for Crichton's books.

Harve - November 1, 2007 08:05 PM (GMT)
Hmm well people often get mixed up by scary films, you get gorey films (splatter films) and you get "chilling" films which is about as "scary" as it gets. I watched SAW when i was just 10 and then it was quite scary and i daren't move for 5 minutes (it depends what mood you're in, what you've done before and what time of day it is and what the atmosphere is like)
