Geffen is not independant, it's owned by Interscope. In fact the real company name of Interscope is Interscope Geffen.

Mute is owned by EMI:

It really should be broken down kinda like this

(Classic Motown)
-Interscope
(Geffen)
(A&M)
Kinda like that. Universal owns Interscope while Interscope owns Geffen and A&M and so on and so forth same with Warner
