Title: Using The Editor

Dave - September 27, 2004 08:53 PM (GMT)
Chapter 1 - Artists.

-------------------------------
Creating a new artist.

1) DO NOT EDIT AN OLD ARTIST IF YOU WANT A COMPLETELY NEW ONE. Start with a blank piece of data.

2) Inputing data.

Page 1:

Forename - Artist's Forename
Surname - Artist's Surname
Nickname - Artist's nickname (not required, rarely used)
Age - Artist's Age
DOB - Artist's Date of Birth (dd/mm/yyyy)
Job - The role of the artist in the band, or if they are a solo artist, select the option "solo".
Ability - The artist's ability in this role.
Style - The genre of music they play in
Country of Birth - duh
City of Birth - duh
Gender - duh
Band - You can not enter the band name here. The artist will be available for selection when making the band later.
Look - The image of the artist

Page 2:

Uk Reputation: How popular/well known the artist is in the UK
US Reputation: How popular/well known the artist is in the US
European Rep.: How popular/well known the artist is in Europe
Oceanian Rep.: How popular/well known the artist is in Oceania
Global Rep.: How popular/well known the artist is in the rest of the world

Potential: The artist's potential in ability. e.g. whether they will become great in ability or stay pretty much the same
Future prospects: Pretty much same as potential I think..

Page 3:

Choose the artist's picture. I'd reccommend at least choosing "none.jpg" otherwise the game may get stressy and crash.

Page 4:

Just choose the different attributes you want here, nothing on this page will make the game crash.

Charisma: This is how charismatic the artist it basically. e.g. more likely to talk to people - good attribute for a frontman
Controversy: How likely the artist is to do something bad/controversial such as take drugs, piss on a cross, etc
Commitment: How committed the artist is to the band. Lower commitment may result in worse gigs, etc.
Flair: Not entirely sure, theres an explanation somewhere which I shall dig out.
Dancing: How good the artist is at dancing. More useful for pop bands and boy/girl bands than say, Hardcore Metal bands.
Visual Appeal: How good looking the artist is. (e.g. whoever added the Corrs, rightfully gave Andrea Corr 100 for this attribute)
Live: How good the artist is when performing live.
Determination: A higher determination would probably make them more determined to succeed and so they may perform better.
Demanding: How demanding they are on the band's style, music, etc
Creativity: Used for song writers (set this to 0 if you don't want artist to be song writer). The higher this is, the betetr quality songs they write.
Frequency: How often they write songs (higher frequency = write songs quicker/more often)
Commerciality: How radio/charts-friendly the songs they write are.
Attitude: Not sure what this is for.
Angst: How depressive, angry, etc they are. This is used in events (probably for if an artist commits suicide or something)

Now, click the APPEND button. If you notice any mistakes after pressing this button, select your artist from teh drop down box, correct the mistake and then click SAVE CHANGES. Do not click append again at all, unless you are creating a new artist.

--------------------------------------------

Editing an artist

Select the artist you want to edit from the drop down list, make the necessary changes (following the above guideines) and then click SAVE CHANGES. Do not for any reason click append.

rajde - September 27, 2004 08:56 PM (GMT)
that could have been helpful if you explained the most important page, page 4.

Dave - September 27, 2004 09:04 PM (GMT)
Chapter 2 - Bands

Creating a band

Ok, so now you have all the artists you want in your band.

As with the creating artists, it is probably a much better idea to start off with a blank piece of data for creating a band.

Page 1:

Name: The name of the band
Age: How long the band has been around for
Style: The band's genre
Signed: The label the band is signed to (leave this blank if it is an unsigned band)
Manufactured: Whether or not the band was created by auditions/American Idol style Tv shows etc
Formed: The city where the band was formed
Covers: How many of the songs they uses are covers of other songs

Page 2:

Uk Reputation: How popular/well known the band is in the UK
US Reputation: How popular/well known the band is in the US
European Rep.: How popular/well known the band is in Europe
Oceanian Rep.: How popular/well known the band is in Oceania
Global Rep.: How popular/well known the band is in the rest of the world

At this point I'd suggest clicking "Estimate contract". If the band is signed to a label, I'd suggest filling the "date signed" part (dd/mm/yyyy). If they are unsigned, leave this blank.

Page 3:

Choose the band's picture. I'd reccommend at least choosing "none.jpg" otherwise the game may get stressy and crash.

Page 4:

Choosing the members of the band. You can only choose artists who are not already in a band (you should see in the box the names of all the artists you created). This part is simple - just check the boxes of the artists you want in the band and don't check the boxes of those you don't.

Now, click the APPEND button. If you notice any mistakes after pressing this button, select your band from the drop down box, correct the mistake and then click SAVE CHANGES. Do not click append again at all, unless you are creating a new band.

--------------------------------------------

Editing a band

Select the band you want to edit from the drop down list, make the necessary changes (following the above guideines) and then click SAVE CHANGES. Do not for any reason click append.

*remove my list no point in having two*

GJ on the lists!

Dave - September 27, 2004 09:17 PM (GMT)
heh thanks, I didn't put mine in at first cause I didn't see much point. Added them now + along with your explanations should clear it up for anyone.

kylaar - September 27, 2004 09:25 PM (GMT)
for the dd/mm/yyyy thing, for single digit days say like the 8th of august, do we put in 08/08/2004 or 8/8/2004 ?

Dave - September 27, 2004 09:26 PM (GMT)
I'll test it out, but i'm not sure it matters.

Ok, the editor auto changes it to (for example) 8/8/2004 from 08/08/2004

Hip_hop_guy - September 27, 2004 09:33 PM (GMT)
what about d12 eminem is in d12 but he is his own band also g-unit 50 cent and lloyd banks are in it but they are there wn bands

Dave - September 27, 2004 09:34 PM (GMT)
you just have to decide where you'd rather have the artist. (or create multiple artists the same - which I'm not sure would work...and would be a bit dodgy if Eminem was 'beefing' with Eminem)

Cloudstrife888 - September 27, 2004 11:21 PM (GMT)
Anyway to delete artists? I accidentally added Axl Rose 5 times.

ok, i have a confusing matter. which files are used in the editor as there are sgX (X=0-9), rob and gam files in there......

Stay Beautiful - September 29, 2004 01:55 PM (GMT)
Can you do the other sections of the editor? You did the two most self explanatory sections!!

Maybe an event and a disc creation one.

Events
-------

Creating an Event

1) First decide, do you want a single event (e.g. artist got hit in the face by a football) or multi events (e.g. rapper shot, rapper in hospital, does rapper die or live)

Single Event:

Start with a blank event piece of data.

Page 1:

Event title
-----------
This is what you want the news header to say

Main text
---------
This is what you want the news story to say. The different codes for events are in the "Show Key" window. Say you want it to say "Artist went for a walk" and you wanted artist to always be the artist the event is about, you would type: "<an1> went for a walk". These codes are used in the Event title too.

Response Type
-------------
Coming soon. I haven't used this yet, I always choose "Cannot Respond".

Root Event
----------
As this is a single event, you need to check this box.

Frequency
---------
This is how often the event is likely to happen. High frequency means it happens very often, etc.

Event Type
----------
Abuse/Praise: Self explanatory. An example would be when one well-established guitarist praises a younger, less-known guitarist.
Break: This is when someone is injured: NOTICE - If you choose this, your news item will not appear ever.
Crime: When an artist is committing a crime.
Death: Using this will make artist 1 die.
Drugs: Self explanatory.
Fan: News about a fan of your band. Example: Fan dies at gig.
Gossip: Basic gossip stories. I use this when someone is injured, so that I can actually see the news story.
Outburst: Self explanatory I guess. Never used it before.
Parent: Not sure. This either means its news to do with the artists parents, or it is the same type of news as the parent news story (in multi events).
Replacement: If a band member is replaced.
Romance: Self explanatory.
Split: When a band splits up.

1 or 2 Artists
--------------
Whether the news story involves one or two artists.

Parameter 1 & 2
---------------
Think these are used to type words which you can then refer to in another event (in multi events).

Page 2:

Style: Which genre of music the artist(s) is/are from.
Rep Value: The reputation the artist has to have to be in the event.
Signed: Which label the artist is signed to.
Age: What age the artist has to be to be in event
Job: What job the artist has to have in the band to be in the event
Controversy: The controversy the artist has to have to be in the event.
Time: When the event could happen.
Flair: The flair the artist has to have to be in the event.
Gender: What gender artist has to be to be in the event
Band: If the event involves two artists, are they in different bands, the same band or any. (I don't think choosing "same" actually works)
The rest on this page is pretty obvious.

Page 3:

Ignore this page for single events.

Page 4:

Coming soon. Have never used this page before.

Page 5:

The consequences of the event.

Break: How many days the artist is off work from.
Controversy: How much controversy is added to/taken away from the artist
Creativity: How much creativity is added to/taken away from the artist
Fine: How much money the artist is fined
Morale: How much morale is added/taken away
Relevent Rep: How much repuation is added/taken away
Visual Appeal: How much visual appeal is added to/taken away from the artist

Now, click the "Append" button. If you want to edit the event, choose it from the drop down list, and when finished making changes, click "SAVE GAME" do not click append.

-------------------------------------

Multi Events:

1)Make an event the same way as the single. This is your starting event (e.g. rapper shot)

2)Make another event in pretty much the same way again. This time have the news as the follow on story. Uncheck the box "Root Event".

3)Do this again and again until you have all the follow on stories you want.

4)Now click off the events screen and click back on. Find your starting event from the drop down list and go to page 3.

Page 3:

Event to link: Choose the event from the drop down list here that you want to be the follow on story to this event.
Min days: The minimum days it will be before the follow on event happens.
Max days: The maximum days it will be before the follow on event happens.

Min Value and Max Value: If you only want one possible outcome to this event and you DEFINITELY want it to happen, select 0 for the min value and 100 for the max value.

If you want 50% chance for it to happen, choose 0 for min value and 49 for max value and so on.

Now click the "Add button" and the event should appear in the box below the tabs.

Repeat this again if you want two possible outcomes. For the min/max values of the second outcome (if you want both to be 50/50 chance), set them to 50 for min and 100 for max. You can have this 2nd event comepletely separate from the first, in which case choose 0 for the min amount and whatever number for the max.

If you have starting event (rapper shot) --> secondary event (rapper comes out of hospital) --> tertiary event (rapper makes public statement) then select the secondary event from the events list, go to page 3 and follow the above instructions to add the tertiary event.

Hope this all makes sense. Does in my head...

Stay Beautiful - September 29, 2004 07:39 PM (GMT)
ta davio.

imapotato - September 30, 2004 01:37 AM (GMT)
I have most of these events changed to RESPOND

As if there is a breaup or possibility...you as the label should send PR to say..."No, those rumors are false...they have tea daily" or some PR spin...

i want to request for a manual on Medias. Can't make it work somehow. :P

Dave - September 30, 2004 03:57 PM (GMT)
Media is one of the most self-explanatory thingsi n the editor. If it doesn't work for you, then nothing I can tell you about it will make it work :s

richardnixon - October 1, 2004 01:03 PM (GMT)
Ok, I want to create a whole new database. I already know how, but what I don't know is the connections between any .gam files. I've already deleted the artists and bands and labels and discs one time, created one on each, and tried to run a game, but the RTE 63 with bad record number. Please Rob, or anyone else who has really good knowledge of this game, please give me some suggestions to creating a completely new datasbase, and one that wont encounter any problems. Thanks

Dave - October 1, 2004 02:57 PM (GMT)
songs and businesses use artists/bands and labels. So they might be the cause of your problem.

edit - it works when I deleted the data from artists, bands, labels, songs, discs and businesses, and then ran the game (selecting create a new label)

richardnixon - October 1, 2004 05:07 PM (GMT)
Ok, this is a stupid question, but where do I go to create a band in the game, and not in the editor?

Dave - October 1, 2004 06:45 PM (GMT)
sorry, meant create a label - you can't create a band in-game.

richardnixon - October 1, 2004 07:35 PM (GMT)
Ok, so i'm officially still testing with the .gam files and the editor before i start any solid work on a MOD. but i do have a question however, i deleted the "new bands" file, and just quickly placed like 4-5 bands in there in the editor, and the game loads and works, but when i view the bands, each of the 4-5 bands i put in there are duplicated like 10-15 times. is there a minimum # of "new bands" to put in before the duplication stops?

Stay Beautiful - October 1, 2004 07:50 PM (GMT)
wow, you have the worst user name EVER!

Joker - October 2, 2004 03:24 AM (GMT)

You can't ... eventually you'll be able to audition a band, but that will be a future update.

You have to be careful. When you CREATE a band, only click "Append" ONCE. Any time you need to EDIT that band, after you've made changes click SAVE. Otherwise you get a duplicate for EVERY APPEND. And there's no delete, so you either then have to put a new band in place of all those duplicates, or start over with a reinstall.

do you mean you want to have a blank media file? If so, I don't think anything is affected by media so go right ahead and delete all the data from it.

If you mean does media affect artists/bands or labels, then no it doesn't.

ok, i am growing very frustrated with this very unstable editor/game. i still get the RTE 'bad record number' even if i put all the appropriate info in the appropriate fields. I deleted all artists, new bands, discs, artists, businesses, labels, everything mentioned...and i fill in one in each and try to run a test, and i get the RTE. what the hell, i am convinced it is impossible to make a MOD

Richard, at each change you done, test it right now, so when a bug happen, you'll know where it coming from. Because, i've do myself personal MOD, with my own, festival, style, look, bands, artist, country, city, venue, staff, awards, labels, media and all working fine... The only bug, that i remark that i can't do anything, it when in festival we add more than one gig, when we list it in the game, it does a runtime overflow... However, it still running well... That's just a listing bug.
