After a mammoth 6 hour painting session last night I suddenly have most of a new Mordheim warband. A few things still needed (a few Goblins, a Troll and the Big'Un above then maybe some more Orcs), but here are the latest additions to the Ironfang Pirate Fleet...

But you really, really don't want to see her. Not as bad as the Black Orc Stripper, but close.

Great stuff again. yarr.gif

The drinking guy's pose is excellent. And the guys with the morions are fantastic.

Only thing i am not too sure about is Biggles the Kardinal.
The link to a certain sketch made me laugh, but Orcs with moustacios always look a bit weird too me.

and should i prepare myself for Black orc strippers??

You better don't ask about that, I think Kurgan would ban me if I posted one in his pirate topic. He has seen them twice in one day so I will save him from seeing the model a 3rd time in 2 days.

@Kurgan: those spanish pirates look awesome, instead of making mordheim warbands have you considered doing different themed orc boy units? Would also be good I think.

Cheers,
G

Thanks Boyz! wink.gif

@BorkBork - I only made Kardinal Biggles as a joke and I'm not actually very fond of him! I will probably make a new Estalian Pirate Shaman before I use them in a game. The drunk guy is the Orc casualty model from the Empire archers box set, so the pose is down to GW not me!

@WGG - The Mordheim warbands will end up as units in my pirate army. I have Gloomwyms and Ogresuns standard bearers and musicians on my project list - the Ogresuns ones are built but not painted.

Very cool! I really like the drunken guy, I immediately started singing "What shall we do with the drunken sailor" as soon as I saw it... One complaint would be that the barrel on Greedo Forks back seems a little bland, maybe if you highlighted the individual planks edges more or painted on some wood grains? As the painting quality is so high it seems a shame... I would love to see a pic with all your pirate units (and warbands) in one!

p.s. Mildew was... um.... interesting?

Again great work, but if you allow me a little remark: Mildews backstraps are painted in the red/black cloth-style instead of the brown leather...

And indeed, and overall view would be great!

cheers,

Kees

How the zog did I miss that?
Good catch mate, I'll sort that out.

Yes, looking at the photos I agree with you. I'll sort that too.

I've started work on a new Shaman to replace Kardinal Biggles - El Doctoro. wink.gif
Photos later (but I'm back at work now so work on them has slowed down huh.gif )

How did you do the black on Geedo's glove? I really like it and can't tell if it's black with a very dark gray on top of it?

Also, how did you do the edges of the choppa? I assume chainmail and then Baddab Black wash. What next? Do you do lines of chainmail and then Mithril? I always went straight to mithril, but I really like the chainmail and mithril (if that is what you did).

Black undercoat with Vallejo Model Colour Black-Grey heayily dry-brushed on, followed by a wash of Badab Black.

I start with Boltgun Metal for armour and weapons, when that's completely dry wash with Devlan Mud then leave to dry (overnight normally).

Paint Boltgun Metal in really thin lines onto the sharp edges. They can be all different lenghts as this gives a battered, used look.

Using Mithril Silver paint more thin lines onto the sharp edges of the sword blade. No other areas of the Boltgun Metal need this final highlight - it makes the blades stand out more that the rest of the metalwork and look sharper!

If you paint towards the edge of the blade it easier to get a point onto each brush stoke, like painting lots of tiny, thin triangles along the blade with the points towards the back of the blade (hope that makes sense!).

It does make sense. Much thanks! I have a very similar technique, but after the wash, I went straight to the mithril. I like yours much better, though. I will have to start doing that.

Another question. I see a bit you like to add on that has a bone handled knife. Where do you get that bit? Skaven stuff? I recognize the ogre bag and other bitz.

Oh, and of course, everything looks brilliant.

It's a Kroot bit - I ordered a load of bits a few days before Christmas, they arrived this Christmas Eve!
