It looks as though there's a lot of options for cases between GW's own stock things like the "Army Transport Cases". Problem is, I have no idea what I really need out of a case.

Does anyone have recommendations on decent cases for a low price?

I'm not opposed to having one case for everything, and I'm also OK with having a couple of cases if it works out better money wise.

Currently have about 110 WOC models (including Trolls, Calavary, etc) and maybe 180ish O&G on foot, plus some wolfs, spider riders, chariots, rock lobba, etc. (But not a huge army either).

How big of a case do I need? Are those $35(USD) 40k cases off Ebay good enough?

Over here in Australia we have rather good metal cases available from a hardware chain, and you can get foam to fit them

Alternately, KR Multicase has a good reputation, then you have Army Transport, Battlefoam is good too; heck, google 'army case' or army box' and see what comes up!

I went a different route and have made a case with slots/shelves for movement trays; I pack them ranked up and ready to rock. I need to magnetise more models though, they still fall over if it gets bumped.

Hope that helps smile.gif

ROV that looks great! Any chance on a tutorial? ESP since you live down under too I'll be able to find everything you used. What was the cases you were talking about from the hardware shop?

As far as the original post, I definitely think the best option if you can find it is magnetised cases that you can rank it all up in. I get such limited gaming time, I'd love to cut out the ranking up. Especially of goblin hordes! All that to say, I've never had one like that do it may not be as good as I think.

I use the old fashioned metal took cases. They are cheap, but they require magnatized bases. I am happy with them, but they have a few downsides....you cant store your units on their movement trays and if you have a lot of big models you will run out of space cause you only can use the side compartments for those.

I have a question. Do you just want to store it and tote it to the local store? Or do you need it to be cushioned for harsh travel?

I use a plastic container with some metal on the bottom. I put rare earth magnets on the bottom of my movement trays. I put the units all ranked up and ready to go. The magnets are powerful enough that they don't move. I can drive to the store with no problem. I am ready to put them on the table as soon as I am at the store. It's pretty cheap, too.

I did do a tutorial on making them. I'd have to dig it up. Let me know if you want it.

I think supplies was around $50? The plastic container and metal cutting shears were a bit much.

Probably most of the time, going back and forth to the local stores (maybe 20 miles of craptastic traffic at most, less than 10 miles usually). I can't forsee harsh travel occurring more than a couple times a year at most, and not anytime soon.

I think magnets, metal sheets, and plastic storage containers is going to be the way to go. Part of me likes those fancy foam padded cases, but in reality, ranking models up every time seems like a bigger pain than magnetizing everything once and being done with it.

On a related question.

Where can I get the foam for the inside of the case?

You can buy them from the same companies that make the cases. They still cost quite a bit.

There was another company that used cardboard boxes and the foam. KDR or something? They were pretty cheap if you are intent on going that route.

I have to admit that I have 2 GW cases that I don't use. A friend gave them to me. One is the huge one and the other is the normal one.

Wanna sell one (or both) cheap? The rate things are going for me, I'm gonna be moving before I get a chance to land all my magnets and cutup the sheet metal for the magnet moving trays.

I think you're in the US also, right?

Okay, well the case was a metal Craftright tool case from Bunnings, about $29 if I remember rightly; I have 4 of the things for different games. It comes with dividers, which are the two grey verticals you see in the pic. I cut 3mm MDF into little shelves (fits in the grooves in the uprights, so adjustable too). #mm MDF can be cut by repeatedly scoring with a Stanley knife, but is soooo much easier with a saw...
Note, I have deeper shelves on the right for larger units like my orcs, so I cut the black top (well, side now) tool holder off to allow the right shelves more room.
I keep my tape measure, pencil and magic cards etc on the pocket side of the tool holder, when the case is closed it and my army book stop the models on the narrower shelves from sliding off.
Oh, there are two plastic 'lugs' or tabs on the bottom of the lid that hold the tool holder in place, cut off at least the right hand side one so it doesn't get in the way of movement trays on the bottom level.

As for the foam, I actually have some I had made up myself for sale, but this is really only practical for Australian and possible New Zealand members (postage sad.gif)

The pic with the Wings of War aircraft shows what I have, it is 30mm deep pick and pluck, with a 5mm stiffer foam base under that. It isn't Battlefoam quality, but at $12 per 500x300mm sheet its a pretty good deal. I needed a fair bit for various things and the minimum quantity to have made up was 50 trays, so I have a bit left over. If anyone is interested let me know smile.gif

I use a backpack from Feldherr brand. Is really nice and confortable:

http://www.feldherr.net/es/feldherr-backpa...e.html?___SID=U

I must say is not cheap, but I think it worths. My whole all-goblin army fits inside, so you can imagine that it takes a lot of space biggrin.gif.

You can pick the size of the trays you want inside. There are of any sizes you can imagine: troops, chariots and even a big one for an arachnarok (without the howdah on the top wink.gif ). You can buy them at a store that sales this backpacks, so you can decide how many of which size you want.

You can also carry army books, dices etc without any problem. I highly recommend it!
