Hi all,
You are prob all sick of hearing this but I am new to the site so go easy on me. I first got into warhammer about 15 years ago when my dad bought me the old warhammer starter box containing high elves and orcs n gobbos! As most people tend to do I grew out of it as secondary school progressed and I discovered sport, girls and went onto uni. Well now I am 27 and that is all over I have been drawn back to the amazing world of warhammer gaming. So I am planning on starting an orc and goblin army and thought starting a thread like this would give me the motivation and drive to follow through to completion. Firstly I would like to say that I am not that concerned about playing or winning too much with this army and doing it more for aesthetic and fun reasons. So with that in mind I just want cool looking unusual units. I am by no means a great painter and very new to all this so any comments or constructive criticism would be appreciated! So I have come up with a theme that I am going to pursue. Dis is da frostbite tribe dat lives in the shadow of thunder mountain near mt squighorn! It always snows and very chilly so going to paint them in an ice/snow theme. I have also come up with cold/ice themed character names in consideration too but will post them when I buy/paint the models. I want a horde of night goblins as the centre with lots of mobile units like wolf riders and squig hoppers and big ass spiders and giants! Oh and da frostbite tribe don't like stinky orcs so just goblin tribe for now. Maybe orcs later if da goblins keep getting bashed! ![]() I currently only have 20 night goblins and a goblin shaman which I am in the middle of painting to try out my theme. I will post a sneak preview pic tomorrow as not at home right now. (i know most people only come on here for the pics!) |

Heh - your story is almost identical to mine, except I've got about 4yrs on ya age wise, but we both had that starter set and both just picked this up again.

Don't worry, we're a friendly lot here. And we hardly ever bite (Except for Theo! Watch out for Theo!!!!) Also the army theme sounds like you've put some effort into it. that should make it all the more fun to put together. And you don't have to be a perfect painter to turn up with decent models. With the washes you can add dept to your models pretty quickly these days. Grtz -EM- |

![]() Thanks for the comments, just an update on the rest of the unit of night goblins. I did originally plan on just painting them as they come in the box but had a brain wave that may work. To make the command and characters stand out I have used slate chips on the base which I have washed dark blue, both to raise the figures up a bit to be more visible and also to make them look like they are stood on shards of ice. So I thought that it may be cool to replace the default moon shields with shards of ice. It gets so cold up near Thunder Mountain that the gobbos like to chip off large blocks of ice to carry into battle. As tough as a shield but also mutli-purpose such as a nice refreshing lick if they get thirsty and also if they stand on them a quick escape down the mountain side if they encounter any big Orc fellas looking to loot them! So with that in mind here are the slightly converted models with ice shields. Will paint them up asap. Oh and ignore the nooby mould lines as they will be removed going forward! ![]() ![]() ![]() New to all this conversion stuff so hope it works and I haven't just ruined my models! Those goblins look great, like they're in a full on blizzard.
An army like this would be brilliant. Looking forward to seeing this develop. |

Are you going to add some yetis? or the abominable snowman?
Love the theme and your painting/modeling style, as with a lot of these army blogs I end up thinking of a load of ideas and getting a bit over excited so give me a shout if you want to hear any of them? (2 of them are up there ^) I too have just got back to warhammer after an 8 year hiatus keep up the good work, really promising!! Drut |

Thanks for the comments guys. I will post some more pics tomoz as nearly finished the first rank of 10 for this night goblin horde. Just waiting for 2 night goblin bosses to be delivered. And any ideas would be greatly received so keep them coming.
Was defo thinking of adding some cold looking creatures. The ogre thundertusk might make a good addition as a woolly mammoth with a shed load of goblins clung to his back! Drut ideas please! ![]() My fanatics will be swinging huge blocks of ice instead of metal balls which hopefully will work well. |

As promised here are a few more pics. Bring on the Blizzard! Still got the 2nd rank to do which I will try to do asap but pretty busy at the moment.
Also sorry about the pics above but didn't realise removing them from imageshack would remove them from here too. And i have deleted them now so can't get them back. ![]() ![]() This post has been edited by apex on Aug 1 2012, 06:39 AM |
