Hey guys!

I have a starting Waagh and wanted to share it with you. Please feel free to comment and give me advice as I am not the best painter (began a year and half ago)

First thing first the boyz! Mostly done, temp movement tray

Then the gobz. They are not that good, but they are painted. I may change the banner, just noticed both the musician and banner look a bit the same smile.gif

WIP black orcs. The blood red one at the right was a test. Temp movement tray obviously wink.gif

Nice start! Nice solid painting. Very clean too. I think you'll be one to watch out for if you keep developing your technique! smile.gif

Very nice work, looks very... clean. If you've got this kinda painting down I'd suggest starting to experiment a little, you know adding other little things like say blood or tattoos for them , and I can't recall if you said you were still working on the gobos but painting the teeth and the eyes really adds to them. Once again nice job!

Good start of a waaagh, like mentioned before the models look clean so that is good to start painting. Once you get a better feeling you can try to add rust and blood to the weapons and armour.

Keep up the good work.

Cheers,

Thank you guys for those encouraging comments!!

@ Da Spawn Man : That's very kind of you! I'll do my best!

@ Zentus : Thanks for your nice words. I'll will definitely add the teeth and eyes on gobs eventually. At the moment, they are playable, better than grey plastic anyway. But you're right I need to finish them properly. Regarding blood, I am not too keen to add it : I know orcs are brutal, but well I'm a girl and don't like blood too much smile.gif I plan to paint tattoos when I add a savage unit to my waagh.

@ Warlord Ghazak Gazkull : Thank you for your encouragement. In a while i will see to add rust

At the moment I am working on several things, an orc chariot (only needing paint on the crew to be done), a gob shamy (half done) and a old model pump wagon. So stay tuned smile.gif

It all looks good enough. If I were to suggest anything it would be some sharper highlights. You can achieve this very easily with the new Dry colours.

Also, great to see someone is still using ol' Gorfang Rotgut. He was one of my first warbosses back in the day.

Good start man. I like the way you've painted up the orc unit. Now the tricky part, keep it up...

QUOTE (Selenn01 @ Jul 4 2012, 08:46 PM)
Regarding blood, I am not too keen to add it

Good for you!

Contrary to popular believe not everything gets better if you coat it in blood.
And adding realistic blood splatter is a kind of technique all on it's own.

I would suggest for the next units to use a color other than gray on the tunics.
If you look at them now it's green skin, gray clothes and gray weapons (with a bit of shine). It could use a brighter color to make them pop a bit more.

Also for the gobo's painting at least the teeth is almost a must.
This livens the models up quite a treat.
Just something like black inside the mouth, dark brown on the teeth followed by off-white
(used to be bestial brown / Bleached Bone but now probably something like Skrag Brown and I have no idea what to use for bleached bone so it's white with some brown + yellow mixed in).

Grtz

Woow if I had know I would get so many replies and encouragements I would have started my log earlier! Thanks guys, it is a great motivation smile.gif

@ Shane C : Thank you for your support!

@ Anton : I did not have any of the new dry paint yet, but it could be a nice opportunity to try them.

@ Amplebob: Thanks mate for your comment! I am glad you like the boyz! For the moment they are my favourite unit painted yarr.gif You can count on me to continue! I didn't make pic of everything, as the other are half done, but I am nearly at 1500 pts painted. Will update pics when bases and movement trays are done!

@ EntertainMe : Thanks for the tip about grey tunics. In reality it has a little hint of blue (I used astrononican grey). As I have nearly 40 painted that way, I sure can add another unit with a different tunic color.

regarding the teeth, I will try to muster the courage to paint all them (they are 40 lancers and 30 bowmen, that are teeth-less yet). Don't worry about the new names of paints, I have the old ones smile.gif

not much more i can add other than whats already been said.
just try experiment with new colours and techniques when you can,
always nice to find a new colour combo that works well for somthing.
(as well as ones youll learn to avoid!!)

looking forward to more models.

and lastly - i also love that gorfang model, hes patiently awaiting his turn on the painting table smile.gif

Thanks for your posts Morkmillian and Thitanium Prince! I am happy many of you like the boyz! They are the best painted unit for the moment i think wink.gif

Had no time for painting since the last pics, but hopefully I will paint a bit tomorrow smile.gif

I have a question for you guys regarding red. I was thinking about continuing my black orcs. I am painting over a white basecoat. The one with blood red was not to my liking : too flashy. The other are mechrite red, red wash and i tried to highlight with a mix of mechrite and bleached bone, but it turned a bit pink (my friend is calling them the barbie black orcs Vomit.gif as a joke).

Would you have advice for me concerning red? And for highlighting red too?

Many thanks in advance! sleep.gif

Edit : I was browsing Meyer63026 army log Here and, well his black orcs are so cool, I might copy him if he's ok smile.gif I think mine are too much red wink.gif

What do you think?

I have the exact same problem highlighting red. Using almost the same colours. I find it I start with dark flesh and layer up with mechrite red I can get a decent deep red. If I want a brighter highlight, i still use the bleached bone combo, but only on the very edge.

I found joy on some of my lizardmen in the past by mixing red with yellowish colours like bubonic brown or ivanden darksun. (no idea what their new names are)

I dont think meyer63026 would mind you copying his technique, but your ones look good too.
