First off I would like to put my army out so people can look at it without reading the block of text that I intend to write.

Now this army, you probably look at it and think, wtf?? How many characters do I want. Well one day I was staring at the orc and goblin book trying to discover some unknown method of making my characters overpowered and destroy everything insight, especially other characters. I realised after a while that I was looking at it wrong, my characters a bad, they are worse then most other races. BUT, they are cheap, soooo cheap. So I thought, well I could try and pimp an orc big boss up and hopefully maybe fingers crossed he would beat a high elf prince, or I could just throw two orc big bosses and that prince and see how he likes it.

When you look at the maths, an orc big boss is 55 points, you can give him 50 points of magic items. Well if you have to pretty much double the guys cost in magic items to make him kinda maybe good in the right circumstances, well it just aint worth it is it?

Anyway about the army I feel there are two major weak points.

1. No dispel scroll. It could really hurt against say a lizardmen army who decide to bring a slann for a party, I wouldn't be able to stop his magic at all

2. No BSB. Bigger problem here, I dunno if I want one, if I did take on I would obviously convert one of my orc big bosses into it but hmm, do I really want one? For higher points yes but at this points lvl? Dunno really

Please give me advice/tips on how to make this better, really need to beat my brothers op empire list sometime in my life. And feel free to skip over my ramblings, probably preaching to the converted.

Hey there! I feel that your army has TOO many characters. It's an easy trap to fall into, but I think OnG benefits a lot more by spending points on the cheap, cost efficient troops to overwhelm the opponent. Your army has almost no fighting troops whatsoever and even if those units will be hard, you will get beaten by the empire list through sheer force of numbers.

A BSB is practically a must at any level of the game. The OnG army has low leadership and relies so heavily on the General + BSB to make sure they stay in the fight. Upgrade one of the heroes!

Changes I'd do overall:


- Make the Black Orc Warboss a normal Orc, and don't give him stunty smashin' axe. An Orc Warboss is good enough at smashing things without items, really. How about Armor of destiny for defense? You save a lot of points on this.

- Skip all Orc and Goblin heroes except one, who you turn into a BSB. This guy can be a black orc to reduce animosity and so he can have better armor. Enchanted Shield and Opal Amulet for a stable 3+/4++?

- Give the NG shaman lv4 and a dispel scroll smile.gif

- Instead of 12 wolf riders in one unit, split them up in 2 different units of 5 for more flexibility and deployment options.

I agree with most of the above as well I'm afriad, I can see what you're trying to do, and it might hold for a turn of combat... but it wont win you any games...
However cheap goblin heroes on wolves can be as effective as units of wolf riders for a comparable price, a big bonus is that they dont suffer from animosity, give him a 5 point magic weapon and he can hold up ethereal chaff etc... I ran one with the mask of eee for a bit, was fun but most of the guys i play against run ogres, tomb kings, daemons and vampire counts so the whole terror causing thing was pointless, is fun against empire, skaven etc though.
Goblins with great weapons... i just dont rate them, everytime i've tried they've been dead before they get to swing an axe... so yeah a 5 point magic weapon over a GW would be my call.

You need some punch in your troops too... most elite troops would have a field day, even our elite troops would have a field day... drop the number of boyz and make em biguns, you wont need the orc bosses then and maybe get a few trolls?

Thanks for the help, I have changed my black orc warboss to just a normal orc warboss. This helped me free up room for a dispel scroll and a BSB. I like the idea of the units backed up by hefty characters. I did a roll against a horde unit of saurus led by a scar vet with spears and my orc boyz with characters and I kicked the dung out of them. This is unreliable but I think I still want to run with this and see how it goes...

Perhaps it is just my paranoia, but stick a cheap 5/10 point magic weapon throughout 3 or 4 characters too, for ethereal things. They pop up everywhere.... ninja.gif
