I can usually do things pretty well if I put in the time and effort, but I'm often lacking on time. Then I tend to get lazy/sloppy and say "good enough". I'm hoping that if I keep this log going, then I'll keep working on this army and see my own progress.

Currently, I don't have a theme or a plan really, but so long as things look like they mostly belong together, I'm ok with that (for now)

As I'm starting this blog, I'm laid out in a hotel room without any of my figs or pictures, so for now....

Current inventory and status:

1x Wurrzag Da Great Green Prophet on Boar (Ebay), Already Painted, not great, but ok.

3x Goblin Fanatics (Ebay) Already painted. Better than I can do currently, but there's some chips here and there. I think a bit faded from age(?)

Goblin Command Group (Ebay) Painted very well IMO.

5x Goblins for Goblin Wolf Riders (ebay)
3x Wolves (ebay)

38x Orc Boyz
10x Orc Boar Boyz
10x Forest Goblin Spider Riders
+/- 53x Goblins
+/- 30x Night Goblins (w/ bows)
10x Black Orcs
1x Troll (BfSP plastic dude)

I'm with you here! My own last effort on the greenskins ended there. Having 50 night goblins almost done proved too much for my patience. tongue.gif

Great to see another blog. Now get home and take som pictures! ohmy.gif

50 goblins?!?! I got frustrated after about the first 10. =P Though having a 1yr old is making it difficult to make time to put in the effort.

The majority of my goblins are from the old 4th(?) Edition box set, single pose type. I wanna say 32 night goblin archers and 32 goblins w/ spears.

Took a break from those and started working on the boar boyz. My hands aren't always the most steady, so I'm painting parts and assembling, hoping for the best. Hopefully should be able to post some pictures of what I've got so far sometime tomorrow.

Leaving the hotel and heading home at 2am. Yikes!

*Ooops. I meant to reply and somehow typed all the above into "Report a Post". I need sleep badly!

Welcome! Looks like you've got a good start to a budding WAAAGH! there. Is it weird that I actually enjoy painting the little Gobbos? i've gotten about 85-90 of them done so far. Not the most detailed of paint jobs but they're ready to march onto the table!

Still no pictures, but I did a wee bit more work on the Boar Boyz. I'm already almost tempted to strip them down and try again. Censored.gif Could just be frustration. We left the hotel at 2am this morning and drove a bit over 6hrs home. I'm exhausted.

My method with the Boar Boyz was to prime on the sprue, then cut, paint, glue, and paint. I thought it was a good idea to try and do the pieces semi-separately so I didn't have to try and work in tiny spaces like between the arm bits and armor. In hindsight, that's not working out so well. Glue doesn't seem to like painted surfaces and I think my knife is getting dull. Kept pricking myself trying to shave off mold marks.

On a positive note, I found another local shop that has a pretty loyal WH group that's regularly active in both 40k and Fantasy. Swung by this afternoon and saw what a 30k point WHFB massacre looks like. (6 armies, 5k points per army).

i find it much easier using little hobby files to get the mould lines of.
you can get differant shapes to make it easier for tight corners.

also you might find it helps to scratch a bit of the paint off the bits you are going to glue so it has somthign to grab onto.
ive started leaving the heads of models and it really does help getting into the gaps since orcs and gobs seem to have such large heads! smile.gif

cant wait for pics smile.gif

DON'T!

They might not be your best job, but they're painted for now and that's hat matters.

If you constantly redo stuff because it is to a lower standard than you are currently painting you will just keep repainting the same few units.
So I say go on and paint the next unit.

You'll find OnG has enough models to paint without repainting them.

Also, post some pics. You might think they are bad, but I usually find that a few quick fixes will save the day.
Some highlight and a wash are 90% of what's needed to update a model.

Paint's still there. I think touching up what I've got now will do the job.

Here's some goblins I did just as I was trying my hand at painting.

Base Coated - Not concerned with little details like buckles, etc. Just trying to get a feel for getting smooth, even coats. Still got a little sloppy.

Dipped Spear Gobo - needing touch-ups.

Post Dip Archer - I was hoping the dip would darken the reds a bit more. It didn't. I really don't want ruby red slippers on these guys. Vomit.gif

Things I learned:

Those archers are supposed to be night goblins!?!?!
Restor-A-Finish does NOT make a good dip.
You can't paint over Restor-A-Finish!
*You can put a matte seal over Restor-A-Finish smile.gif

Paints Used:

Rust-Oleum’s Painter’s Touch Primer
Delta Creamcoat
Plaid FolkArt
Applebarrel
Howard's Restor-A-Finish**

Rust-Oleum Matte Finish - It did remove some of the shine. I can't find those pictures, gonna have to take new ones.

*But how well will paint stick over the matte finish? Dunno yet.
**"Howards Restore-A-Finish" was used as a dip, having mistaken it for Minwax. FYI, Restore-A-Finish is used to penetrate and swell wood. It does not ever really dry.

Teeth haven't been touched. Some of the heads I've already managed to rub the paint off of. Things that should be "wood" aren't done. Then need to do some highlights of some type. I think I went a bit too thick on my psudeo-black wash and toned everything a bit darker than I wanted. That might not be a bad thing.

*Wood - whatcha all use? The browns I have are too close in color to the leather...I think...

For wood items on my minis I tend to start with a really light brown, basically a khaki or beige color, then wash with a brown wash or ink, and then do a drybrush or highlight of the original base color after the wash. It does the trick for me. What browns do you have currently? I'm sure if you provide a list we can offer some combinations that might work with what you have available.

Off hand, I think I have 'brown' and brown. *sigh* I keep forgetting to check when the kid is awake (all my paints are on the desk in his room at the moment).

Worked on cleaning up some more lines on the Orc Boyz, but I still can't decide what weapons I should outfit them with. I'm thinking Choppa's and more Choppas, at least for this batch (19 models total).

To take a break from assembling the Boyz, I busted out the Spider Riders. Went through and started assembly by drilling the spiders for the gobbos to get pinned too. Was it necessary? I doubt it, but it was pretty easy and let's me get a feel for things. This way too I can just stick the goblin on and 'see what it looks like' as I go without them falling off as easy too.

LOL I hear ya. A lot of the items that I was able to pull from storage are tucked into what little extra space I have in my kids walk in closet in the apartment. Always have to remember to get what I may need before 8pm and he's put to bed for the night.

So I'd say try a base of brown with a highlight or drybrush of 'brown' to start with and see how it turns out! tongue.gif

Apple Barrel's Real Brown and Folk Art's Melted Chocolate are the two browns I have. Looking at the bottles, they look identical. I'll have to actually paint them on to something and look at in good lighting to really get a good comparison.

Some more work on the Boar Boyz - the boar isn't done - the Boy, I'm not sure yet. I mostly like the way it turned out for my first attempt. I think it could use some more highlighting or something though, seems a bit dark. I'm calling it done for now though.

The question still remains too of going Shields or extra weapon (hence the missing arm).
