Yay for football, the beautiful game!

I love watching great footballing skill and goals and I've not missed a game yet. So far Russia and Germany have both looked very convincing, with Portugal and Netherlands being rather disappointing.

Who's going to win? Who's not going to win? Your favorite goals so far? Best players so far?

Discuss (keep it friendly!)

To be fair me claiming we're still in it, probably should be removed for being a vile and farcical comment.

Span v Italy today, I say 2-2 draw, that would be fun.

Russia played very well though it was against a mediocre Czech opponent so hard to say yet how good they are. Germany was slightly lucky against Portugal who had enough chances to equalise. Holland vs Denmark was one of those weird games where the better team just cannot find the net, though the Dutch players looked very lethargic in the last 20 minutes with a seeming lack of energy to chase.

As I post Italy-Spain just kicked off, this should be an interesting one. Shall we take bets on how many games before Balotelli will manage before he gets a red card? tongue.gif

Italy looks strong so far. Spain makes really weird decisions to pass rather than shoot in front of the goal. Balotelli will be sent off some time. Maybe not this match, but he's on his way. smile.gif

Denmark got lucky. Netherlands didn't make use of their chances. Germany and Portugal didn't convince me that either is really good. Russia looks strong, and the rest of that group all have a good chance of reaching the quarter final.

Italy looked pretty comfortable against Spain, I expect both of them to change up gears in the next few games.

Spain could do with a striker though. Preferably one that isn't Torres.

yeah, Torres should have scored at least once.

but atm i would rather have Torres then Robben or V Persie.
The problem with Robben is that he wants to make up for his failure in the Champ league final. And the issue with V Persie is that the Dutch team is not Arsenal

... though I must say I'm always (eh, at least most of the time) optimistic, we will beat Germany and later Portugal and then on to the finals!

(And wasn't the game Netherlands vs the Danes not entertaining - we are the entertainers of Europe!)

(I wonder when the first reaction comes in!)

cheers,

Kees

Robben and V Persie don't seem to play that well together which is a shame, as in theory they should compliment each other really nicely in the way they play. Maybe they just need a goal each to get into the groove.

I think the Spain v Italy result was pretty fair really, Italy looked more comfortable and I think they would have won if it had been knockout. Torres made a hash of his first effort maybe because he'd just come on, and his second chip was a great effort, unlucky he hit it a little hard, he could have snatched the win for Spain.

Before Torres got on the field Spain made some really weird decisions. They wasted some good opportunities to shoot from inside the box while looking around for someone else to pass the ball to.

And Balotelli... Whatever went through his mind when he got alone with the goalie? Even I had managed to shoot the ball, at least.
