So while I have been playing warhammer for years OnG is very new to me. I have fallen in love with herds and was wondering what formation they are best run in

5, 7 or 10 wide. I like units in sizes of 15/10, 17/9 (for 7 wide perfection!) or 30-40/10 for horde (altough I almost never use hordes).

If you went horde, wouldn't you want something like 30/20? I mean, why risk it all blowing up if you lose the gobbos? I would think if you put that many points in you want them to stick around. It's only another 30 pts.

I usually include units of 5 and 7 wide. Horde is too much I think.

What would kill the 10 goblins though? You could increase it 15 if you'd like of course, but on average the goblins will die at the same time the squigs die from BS shooting and magic. Statistically anyway.

Templates could get 'em and then some hand to hand. I dunno. Still, it's only 30 pts for them.

Points add up, though. You could place your night goblins in a herd so that the template only touches very few of them, y'know? And hand to hand... what, when all the squigs are dead? You could be flanked something immensely of course.

I think 30 Squigs/10 NG's would be ideal, provided you're running a Horde. If you're not, I think a unit of 21/7 gives you the best bang for the buck (fielded 7-wide).

7 handlers is too little, in my experience. 9 is bare minimum and I'd recommend 10. 7 can be killed off all too easily with some unlucky 5-6 rolls when distributing hits.

I run two regiments of them.

Both are 7 wide and they consist of 15/10 and 14/10. This is because I have 29 Squigs. :-)

I like running a few more goblins than I need. It really helps keep the ranks of the unit up and keep the squigs chomping down on stuff for longer.
I like a huge horde of 16 goblins, 34 squigs. But i've also ran the herd in several smaller games with around 20 models, always atleast 14 squigs...
