Hey all.

I'm playing a game next week against a woodelf player and I'm going to be trying of a goblin build that I think could work quite well. What I can't seam to get my head around is weather or not he's only good in too few match-ups to be viable in an all around list.

The build is simple: Goblin big boss, wolf, Light armor, shield of ptolos, Terrifying maks of EEE!, spear. @ 101 pts.

The idea is to have him on a flank. Against many lists he can declare long charges which he's not likely to make and cause terror tests. He should always work on a flank so there is no good leadership to come by. He's extra tasty against wood elfs though, as he'll likely ignore any stand and shoot reaction with the shield.

At the same time, He'll be highly unaffective against all undead/daemon armies. He is only 60& more expensive than a wolf rider unit though, so he's still expendable should you need a redirecter.

Thoughts? Is he worth the points?

Haha...that's pretty cool. biggrin.gif Definitely try him out. I'm just worried he'll be a bit squishy in combat.

Oh I will. And I don't plan on having him go into combat at all. Maybe against an eagle if I can get a charge. But I would much rather scare his archers away...

100 pts terror causer with a potential charge range of 21". Might work out quite nicely I recon smile.gif

Figure that over the course of a game you might force 3-4 Terror tests, which, if you can keep your targets out of the Ld and BSB bubbles, should probably net you about 1 Flee reaction. Would work better if you had a unit of Wolf Riders or a Chariot to make charges against anything that he scares off so that they have to Flee again.

Overall I don't think he's really an optimal build, but he sure sounds fun, and has the potential to be hugely useful if you opponent fails a test with a key unit. So he's perfect for a goblin!

This looks pretty interesting, and it just might work. Let us know how it performs! smile.gif

used something similar but on a spider instead. I know the wolf is cheaper but theres something about spiders and terror. Also he can traverse terrain much better.

A wolf can do the fake charge from a longer distance though

Not to mention he has the Vanguard move to get close to weak targets in the back and actually make that charge on occasion. wink.gif

Right - we're referring to a Giant Spider, not a Gigantic one. I get those two mixed up on occasion. Either way, M9 > M7, especially for charges that you're attempting to spook people as opposed to actually wanting to get in there.
