I'm just starting up Orcs and Gobos after playing Skaven for a while and after seeing my friends army I got into Gobos. My plan is to have a very lore based army of essentialy forest goblins. What I've thought of so far is that the Goblins were originally part of a Waaagh! In Albion which ended up loosing momentum and this group of Goblins got left on this island off the cost of Albion. This large island is very forested and very mystical (like most of Albion). Naturally, being the greenskins that they were started to cut down these trees, not knowing of their power, and building up a base. I'm thinking that the forest could be similar to the Athel Loren, the Wood Elf one, and have living trees and what not. So The goblins start getting attacked and killed but all sorts of natural forces, pack of wolves raiding their camp, vines and branches growing at unnatural rates and skewering goblins and all sorts of stuff like that. So being goblins they understood when a more powerful force was putting them in their place, whether it be orcs or trees it's essentially the same thing look out for your hide, so the gobos started treating the forest as a master at first and caring to it in fear, But after a few generations had gone by the care-taking became more religious than an act done out of fear. So now the Goblins worship the forest, much like the humans of Albion and the Wood Elves do.
Moving away from lore I was brainstorming units, I plan on mostly using night goblin models painted with brown robes maybe with some kind of green on the bit around the hood. My army leader is a Shaman whom I will refer to as a Druid, I kustom made him using alot of bits from my friends ogre kingdom stuff, such as eagle wings on his back, stone tablets on his staff ect. Instead of using troll models I plan on using Tree Kin models (But playing them as trolls in the sake of fairness, I believe they have he some base size, correct me if I'm wrong please) And if I ever want a Giant I think I'll use another Wood Elf model, the Tree men I think they're called (Also same stats and If the base size is of please tell me ) And for cavalry I'll probably use wolf riders not spiders. So my purpose for posting all of this is just to see what people think of the idea, If anyone has any suggestions or edits go ahead and tell me Thanks! I've got a foresty themed goblin army in the works. Same idea with the brown robed NGs, lots of trees and foliage worked into the units. Link is in my sig. The other stuff you're planning actually sounds really cool...except for the fact that GW's Treekin models are horrible
I would spend some time looking around Athel Loren and other wood elfy sites to see some of the alternate ways that people have approached the trees. Many of them look better than GW's. Oh, and you could do something like an Eagle ridden by gobbos for Manglers, or maybe a Fenbeast (although that might be too small?). Anywho, it seems like an idea that has lots of potential, is fluffy, and very unique. Good luck! |

http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer004.jpg These are the unpainted savage orcs that I have used some green stuff to give them kilts, they are supposed to look like scotsmen to fit the army look. http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer003.jpg http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer002.jpg Just my basic goblin block, used brown robes to make them have a more druidy feel and I made their spear tips grey with some wash to give them a stone look. http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer008.jpg http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer009.jpg This is my great shaman (ie: my high druid) on a wolf, the wolf is supposed to look a bit fey. http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer010.jpg http://s1066.photobucket.com/albums/u403/Z...arhammer011.jpg And these two are of some of the savage orcs I've painted. Why not try Treebeard from LotR as your giant/treeman conversion? He looks a lot better than the Wood Elf model in my opinion, just a thought. Otherwise really good ideas I love the colour choice of the robes.
Also a thought, try getting your hands on some old style cold ones and using them as raptor mounts???? Anyway keep up the good work and post some pics!!! |
