Thanks for the tips guys biggrin.gif

Recived a few 'bitz' that I ordered off ebay, so been working on a small 'hunters camp'. The below pic is the very basic stage, I have Just added the cloth for the roof, cut out the doors and textured the walls (Picture to come tomorrow) - now to add detail by using the bitz tongue.gif

Ok so here are the huts base coated ready of painting! My lil Hunters Camp is turning out quite well. One is in black just because I ran out after basing that hut huh.gif So I used white spray to base the rest! Im sure I had another 2 pots of plack somewhere LOL but neva mind laugh.gif
Also, Im using bulsa wood to base my Terrian but am finding it curling up when the sand has been pained. I had the same problem with cardboard - hence I went and spent money on the wood instead.
It is becaue im using too much paint, or maybe watering it down two much? Does anyone have any Tips on this?
I dont want to spend time doing nice scenery for us not to beable to use it due to curling up of the base sad.gif

it usually warps from pva glue (which i assume you use to stick the sand on) as when it dries it shrinks a little bit so drags the edges in (and up)

but paint the underside with pva and let that dry, it should warp it back the opposite way id also recomend doing a couple of thin coats and lettign them dry and checking it, as you dont want to warp it to much obviously
ive never tried this with balsa tho.

but the huts are looking great, i really like the roofs.

The huts are coming along nicely, I especially like the texture and the detail on the roof, but conversely the sides are maybe lacking a little detail, although it depends how you paint them up. One thing I'd seriously consider though is getting some 4-6mm mdf or hardboard from your local DIY store to use as the base, as balsa or cardboard just wont last. Keep up the good work!

Starting to look nice there.

And for warping (in addition to tips already given).
Use thick cardboard (I use 0,8mm stuff and this doesn't warp).
Or use real wood. Plywood should work,

Also I have some water resistant multiplex multiplex (blackish wood in layers) which is light, easy to work with and doesn't bend.

This last is ideal for basing.

Thanks for the tips on curling guys - so anoying to come down to all my lovely Egyptain and woodland scenery all bent up sad.gif

Any Way......
I have been focusing on my Own army atm, DE, so have put my partners O&Gs on hold hehehe but still working on the Hunters Camp.
I have yet to do a lot of detailing and few more things to add. Just built a spear rack! The sides off the hut as in previous photos where textured with 'no-nails' stuff - Grabbed this from the £1 shop. I find when applyed drys soild making it sturdy and you can get a good 'ruff' texture from it - As below biggrin.gif
I know the Huts are different shades, one was based coated black, the rest white, but as O&G use scrap stuff n bits from what ever they gather, im sure it fits in well LOL I like a bit of variation!
Also the single hut will not be stuck down so it can be used with other scenery and moved for space smile.gif

I was having the same problem.

A few years back I was making some forests on cardboard stands and the curling up was driving me nuts. I took a break and fried a steak, which gave me a great idea! Every time I fry a steak I thinly slice each side to stop the edges from curling up when it shrinks as it cooks. I thought that surely the same principle would work for carboard.

I tried the same thing with the cardboard before glueing on sand and painting and it seems to work fine. A few thin score lines on the top and bottom seems to give it enough room to kinda shrink in on itself and not curl up.

I use two fairly thick pieces of thick corrugated cardboard, a rough patchwork scoring pattern in the middle with my craftknife, then glued so the grains on each piece are at right angles to each other, so if I could see through them they'd look like mesh. Then masking tape around the edges so cover up the unsightly holes.

I hope this is helpful, it's worked for me so far smile.gif
