It's hard to comment when you want to go with a fun list. If you want to have fun, you can take almost anything you want.....even Snotlings. They are absolutely horrible in this edition, but if you want to take them to be fun, why not
![]() If you want to tweak it a bit, I have some suggestions. Why not a unit if Big Uns? I know they cost a lot, but the extra S is really useful, especially after the first round of combat. You also get a magic banner with the unit, which is almost worth it for that lone! If you put a magic banner in with the Big Uns, it frees your BSB up to take something different. Personally, I find that having a BSB is more important for a low LD army like ours. I'd rather give our BSB defensive magic. The most effective is Talisman of Preservation and Enchanted Shield. Then again, if you don't want to maximize, I understand. Why the War Banner? It's not nearly as effective as it used to be. There are so many other fun ones to take these days. Even the Terror Banner is quite handy. It makes you immune, but it also forces them to make Ld tests! Razor banner is good, too. Personally, the flinger option on the Spider is not very good at all. I really don't understand the point of it. I'd rather be moving and attacking (or at least threatening) with it and getting hit doesn't do much at all! If you go with Boar Boyz, I would take a magic banner. Why not? We get so few units that get them. At least go for the one that gives you Strider to avoid those awful terrain tests. Those will especially hurt with the extra hand weapons. You want a fun alternative to the Dispel Scroll? Go with the Feedback Scroll. I find that there are certain spells that are terrible for us to deal with. Vortex Spells, 13th, and others. Wait till someone throws a bunch of dice at something and use that spell, especially early in the game! If a lvl 2 throws at least 5 dice, they usually die. I sometimes do it on 4 dice if they have a wound. Most of the time they don't have protection and just die. I've found I actually prefer it to the Dispel Scroll, but it's more points. Does that help? |

Sure helps, thanks a lot! I'll definetly consider Big 'Uns (I don't know why I didn't before) and... all the other stuff you mentioned.
The flinger is only there because it was there when I bought it (most of my O&G is "second-hand" but if I can remove it, I will. Another option is of course to drop the big spider-gribbly for a unit of 20-something Black Orcs, adds up to about the same cost. And I do want to go for fun, it's just that I like to have an off-chance of winning. Once again, thanks a lot |

You can always leave the Flinger, but just don't spend the points on it. Just say it's not there. I have to admit that I am really happy with my Arachnarok! It can really smash a lot of units. It's not so good against a lot of High Strength attacks. It can die to lots of war machines, but it usually takes some concentrated fire on it to bring down all 8 wounds. It is often under-appreciated, in my opinion.
The problem with Black Orcs that I've found is that everyone knows they are our "elite" unit. So, when you bring a unit of them, they attract a lot of attention with shooting and magic and magic and shooting. I found that 20 tend to disappear quickly. One thing some people have done is go 3 x 6 or 7 with a unit. This makes them more of a support unit that hits things in the flanks. It's good for fighting monsters, too. It tends not to get hit as bad as it's viewed as not as important. Sometimes. If you want to do fun, you can also try the Scroll that turns people into frogs. I've always wanted to try it.... Oh, and nothing wrong with 2nd hand OnG! We are a horde army and I often wonder why I ever started..........but love 'em! |

Thanks for that input as well. I didn't really catch what you meant with how to run black orcs though. Is that 3 units of six or seven each?
Oh and I'm definetly going to try the frog-scroll on my Night Goblin shaman (whom I've named Shroomfizz ) This post has been edited by Snarba on Mar 28 2012, 03:38 PM |

Not units, but ranks. So, going with a small unit that has slightly wider ranks you can come up with 3 x 6 for 18 Black Orcs. Sure, it's only 2 less, but when you put it in that ranking, it looks less. Well, at least for some people.
