QUOTE (Warbringa @ Mar 12 2012, 02:24 AM)
Is there a rule that states you MUST maximise your units into base to base contact with the enemy you've charged / over ran into?

The only thing I've seen about maximising your units is when you've charged an enemy at an angle, you will then make a final wheel to "Close the Door". It is this closing of the door that refers to Maximising your models into base to base contact, as opposed to having the one or two that may be in base to base contact at an angle from the charge.

Unless there is a rule I'm not seeing that says you Must form your unit against your enemies unit for the sake of bringing as many models as you can into base to base contact, then you pretty much may fight as you want when it comes to charging straight into the enemy unit with only a couple of your models from your unit hitting it while everything else is hanging on the outside.

QUOTE (BRB pg20)
...the charge move is subject to an important restriction: the unit must move straight ahead, excpet that, during this move, it may make a single wheel of up to 90 degrees. You are free to make this wheel in order to place your unit wherever you like against the facing of the enemy unit that is being charged, but remember that you must bring as many models into base contact with the enemy as possible, from both sides!

Emphasis mine, this is stated before the section about aligning to the enemy.

You should check out this post. Also the referred post in there.

Methinks some of the questions are greatly exemplified (and answered) there smile.gif

Thanks for the Links, but as stated a few posts ago, the idea that no sliding is allowed when, concerning combat reforms, is wrong according to the FAQ!

When charging or overruning there is no sliding though.

Agreed. You always have to maximise as part of the charge/overrun. But you do not have to combat reform to get more models into combat afterwards!
