If I have a unit of arrer boyz behind another friendly unit, I can't shoot the enemy on the other side of the table because I don't have line of sight, right? Or can I still shoot but because my friendly unit is in the way it is considered soft cover for the target?

Your second option is correct. 8th Ed allows you to shoot anything you can see no matter how obscured, though you will have to suffer a -1 penalty for cover.

yeah, troops dont necesarrily block line of sight anymore. So yeah, if you can actually see them you can shoot them.
Although i strongly believe true line of sight is a mistake, in case of bows shooting over friendlies i can live with it. |

Isn't a unit in between considered hard cover?

Perhaps if a friendly unit is in front of you, you can still shoot but it's considered hard cover. Is this just the general consensus or is there a passage in the rule book about this? Because I didn't see it.
I imagine the same goes for War machines like Cannons and Spear Chukkas, that you're shooting as an arc over the heads of the friendly troops in front of you at the enemy. Though with war machines there probably isn't a modifier for it. Just guessing. Still trying to figure it out. |

Yup. Page 41, middle column. Troops, friend or enemy, give hard cover so -2 to hit. |

I agree with this rule change, but of course, it'd be far more fun if they shot their own guys too! All those that miss should hit their unit. He he he...
