Just spent several hours assembling a unit. Also I seem to have a lot of left arms sticking out at 90 degree angles, I don't know if some arms I used were meant for wolf riders or if they are just made that way. Did my best to line them up but god knows how I will get all the shields on later.

Shileds are a bit of a nighmare on these but they can be done. Some times reassembling the unit can be tedious but ive got better at it.

Actually I looked at your unit for inspiration re shields. Last night was my first go at doing these guys. But I am sure I will get it right in the end.

You say common Goblins are hard to rank up? Try to rank up some new Horrors, Bloodletters or Ghouls and then come back and say that! laugh.gif

I got a box of Goblins some weeks ago and they seem to rank up quite well. But I guess it's so because they don't have shields.

- Cheers, Skarsnik.

Plastic BlackOrks can be a paint oh yes! But if you try to mix 2Hand and additional hands weapons itīs ok. I had some serious trouble with getting my musician into the line and after a session of raging and freaking out on him I banned him on the outside - no way getting someone to the drumming side of the bugger! After ranking up 30Blackorks with 2 Bosses (Grimgork and the good ol BO Boss) I decided I will let a little space between my next regiment on the reg. base. So it will fit better and I wont get angry on my beloved blackies.

I hate you.

Only joking. tongue.gif

On common goblins it is the shield that makes the problem. Otherwise it would be 'ok'.

People say black orcs, well try my mixed-unit of 3rd, 4th and 7th edition black orcs. ohmy.gif

Or my 3rd edition goblin archers on slotta-bases, I thought "hey wouldn't it look cool if I make these guys shoot forwards instead of diagonally". The only problem being that standing forwards they overshoot the base (no pun intended) so the ranks have to be staggered left or right. And even then some pairs cannot stand adjacent. I have decided when I come to paint my orc archers they can stay diagonal and be damned, I will just have to remember to always deploy them on the right flank of my battleline.

And then we have the dearly beloved squigs. Censored.gif

Glue the shields onto their backs. Problem solved! (worked for me)

Try up-and-down. I've got a big bin full of slate/shale/whatever you call thin stone, and can raise models up on them a bit. Just enough so the elbows/shoulders are staggered. Makes them fit a lot better.

I glued my goblins together 7-8 years ago and I never put the shields on. I painted them up last year and I started to paint the shields, but never finished. I still need to do it and I know that I am going to have problems with the shields! They are all converted to have hand weapons, though.

I was thinking of gluing some shields on the backs as it will be the only way for some of the unit. Also remember that as long as 51% of the unit has the proper equipment that it is acceptable. I am also thinking of putting the shields on the front of their fists instead of on their arms. This will make the shield be flush with a front facing and I think it will work for some of them. Looks good from the front.

My secret was that of you look close enough a lot of the shields do not line up properly with the goblins i.e. they are not holding them dead centre. Some of the shields are glued to knuckles and the base. You really only notice when you look very close. Those arms that stick out at right angles are a pain but thats how I got round them. If you look closely at the musician in the front rank towards the right end (of my unit above) you can see what I mean. I think that was the most obvious one.
