Edited 15th November 2012: Added an index. I realized that every single model in this first post has been improved after posting the pictures. Most have gotten proper bases, some have been washed to improve shading, and some have gotten converted a little bit. I am not really done with any of them, but have removed the old pics to make space for an index. I will re-post the old pictures in a comparison to the current models, whenever I finish that bit of work.

QUOTE (old post)
Hi, I'm quite new to Da Warpath, and with the exeption of joining the CCU Project, I'll just introduce myself by starting this army blog.

I started playing at the end of 5th edition, more than 10 years ago. Most of my orc models are 6th edition. My group stopped playing not long after 6th came, mostly because Warhammer is expensive and time consuming.
Now we have the money, so we recruited some new friends, and started up again last summer.

So without further ado:

Da Burning Skull Clan

Characters:
Warboss & Warboss on War Boar
Savage Orc Warboss - Khrun da Barbar WIP
Orc Great Shaman
Savage Orc Shaman
Night Goblin Shaman needs new pic
Orc BSB on War Boar
Iggfang, Black Orc BSB
Night Goblin Warboss on Great Cave Squig
Grumlok & Gazbag I use them as a Black Orc filler...
Tuhis da Gobbo Shaman - Goblin shaman painted by Tuhis at asrai.org.

Core:
Orc Big 'Uns - upgraded as of 26th feb 2013.
Da Blood Moon Night Goblins
Orc Arrer Boyz - unfinished, awaiting new bases and some wash.
Goblin Wolf Riders - have new bases, but no new picture.
Da Killin' Legion WIP, Orc Boyz wif spears, 2 ranks done by 7th Dec. 2012

Speshul:
Black Orcs WIP
Savage Orc Boar Boyz WIP
- awesome unit filler
Orc Boar Chariot
Spear Chucka 1 - wif crew
Spear Chucka 1 & 2 - not based
Squig Herd - Herders awaiting completion. See my Night Goblins for temporary herders.

Rare:
Stone Troll and River Troll
Snotling Jump Wagon - wif spiky roller
Giant
Mangler Squigs
Mangler Squigs 2
Two Rock Lobbers
Doom Diver Catapult
- SupahGob, crewman
Doom Diver Catapult 2 - converted from Arachnarok Howdah.

Nice to see a new blog, as always. smile.gif Looking nice dude, but one or two questions: Are you using washes dude? Some of the stuff looks kind of flat. If not, make sure to do. It's the most important thing in painting miniatures almost! laugh.gif Also, the stuff looks a bit shiny. Have you varnished it or is it just the pictures? If Varnish, you should use a dullcoat on top of that. biggrin.gif

Da Git, you're story reminds me of mine (i got back in during the later seventh edition). I've got to say that i really like the colors you have chosen, the yellow and the red are quite strong and "in your eye" so to speak, so thats a positive.
Were the first boxes you bought the sixth edition starter kit and a box of wolf riders? if so, then we started with exactly the same boxes.

Good work, and im looking forward to seeing more.

No, none of these have been painted with washes. When most of these guys were painted I did not know what washes are. The shiny stuff has been varnished. I do not like how they turned out, so I will not use it much again. They are some of my "playable-but-needs-redoing" models.

Thanks for the tips! smile.gif

@Grom: Yes, that's exactly what I started with. It's fun to see someone with the same starting point. One of the things I need to redo in my army is to use the theme colours even more.

Edit: Just avoid looking at the bases... When I started playing all that was normal to do with them was to apply flock. I live kinda remotely, so I couldn't even get hold of that. I will do something about it. I promise!

A nice army (and a nice contribution to the project too)!

Indeed you might consider to use washes. I use the Vallejo smoke. In some cases more water to thin it down, in some cases less water.

After that, highlighting / drybrushing. Drybrushing is'nt very hard to do, you only need to have the right brushes, they wear down fast too btw.

Varnishing the models, I do it with Testors dullcoat. It seems not to be so protective I hear from others but I don't play that lot so the models won't wear down with me.
Maybe others can contribute to this?
After the dullcoat I paint the metal parts shiny again with gloss... Just an idea.

cheers,

Kees

As suggested the fastest way to re-paint them is just give them a wash. Devlan Mud for any weapons or clothing, Thraka Green for the skin.

If they still look too shiny add matt varnish. I use humbrol matt varnish. Works ok if used sparingly ie. don't spray it on too thick. I then give the metal bits (and any raised bits that caught too much spray) a light coat of gloss.

heheh, nice.
Also, about bases, if you live near any beach you can just grab a plastic bag full of sand from there (i live 15 minutes on foot from the closest beach), but make sure to bathe it in water to get out all the salt.

Yes, I will base them all. My problem at the moment is that every pinch of sand and gravel is covered by a meter of snow... And snow doesn't do well with indoor gaming. Cheese.gif

The Troll is actually one of my first tries with basing, and the lack of static grass on the front is due to the careless handling by someone else... For the future and the rest of the army I'll use coarse sand, bits of stone and concrete and static grass. WHEN I do this is a question I'd rather not answer at this time... wink.gif

This guy is one of my current conversion projects, along with a boar riding BSB. I am also painting some black orcs, which will make my unit a passable 18 gits, when done.

I've greenstuffed a river troll fin onto his back, and I'm planning to paint him green. I will also add the river troll vomit to his mouth (that's why he's so far back on the base).

I also forgot to take pictures of my orc shaman, who's straddling along on foot. If the snowing keeps up this weekend I will get time to both paint, photograph, and post stuff. smile.gif

I just started painting it. So far only the very first layer, and even it is incomplete. I think having this army blog may get me to work a little faster, so I'll post my other WIPs as well.

The arm isn't glued on yet, and I almost pushed the boar off the base and the orc off the boar when I took the picture, so he looks a bit off in the picture.

Almost done with the troll!

I'm still in the learning process with highlighting and shading, but I think I'm getting better.

edit: Done! (?)
