Just a warning in case their's any noobies such as myself lurking on this site when you buy your first regiment of orc boyz and are excited to get them glued make sure they rank up before you begin to glue. two choppas in front of the orcs face may look awsome but doesn't work out to well for rank and file.

This is very true, and those of us who have been around a while STILL get burned by this once in a while.

One suggestion, if I may offer one, is to put some of your models on a cavalry or monster base. (25x50, fits 2 orcs side by side, 50x50 fits 4 orcs in a square)

This gives you slightly more room to position a model, while maintaining the correct base sizes. Allows you to move the unit easier, (fewer models to tip) and remove casuatlies faster.

Rank up your unit so it "plays nice" and write numbers underneath so you can quickly put the models in the right order to fit.

If you do this, make sure you paint them before they go permanently on the base. a cavalry base is fine, but if you do the 50x50, you will have trouble reaching all the spots in the middle of the base with a brush.

I still have a bunch of the 6th Ed Arrer Boyz that I didn't try to rank up when I glued them down. They are hard to use in a unit now...

thanks for the advice gabus sounds like it will work out pretty well. unfortunately I'm just beginning the hobby so i do not have many bits or spare bases. good news though only 7 or so boyz left and they seem to rank up relatively well.

Blackorcs are worse, in my experience. My 10 first are just...EVIL! rolleyes.gif

The first post applies to every single unit by the way, it does help. smile.gif

Tell me about it. They have the hardest arms to position. Every model in my unit has a gap in-between the bases. I am all for models with cool poses, but when they are impossible to rank up, makes me mad

The worst for me are squigs and herders. It seems the designers gave no thought at all to ranking up. My 3rd edition gruntas and snortas are pretty bad as well.

those are completely impossible to rank up anyways.

But those are tiny, compared to current ones. Although their arms tend to stick out 90 degrees, but they are easy to bent.

Part of the issue is that alot of the weapons on mine are also joined to the leg of the model. At some point I may cut them apart so I can adjust them. Though actually it would probably be quicker to just mark the bases with numbers.

How many are we talking about here? Enough to find a reasonable combination and number them? smile.gif

You can still get the 100x25mm regiment bases for your boys. Making ranks of 5 is way easier if you have 4 prepositioned and just have to squeez one on the end. Get your whole command on one too so the banner and stuff work together nicely. I would do 2-3 ranks that way and individual models for your back rank in case you only lose 2-3 in a combat, then you can use the dead single models to "make change" once they start biting into the forward ranks. The only down side is it makes it hard to get a character into the unit unless you put him on the front corner.

I am seriously hoping the new book will bring with it new basic orcs so we can finally get them ranked. I just dont have the patience for the current ones.

I know what you guys mean.

I spent a whole afternoon blutacking my Blorcs and taking photos of each rank so that they would rank up. Then I haven't even painted 3 of 4 ranks. Did the same with my Boyz.

I'm expecting my chaso warriors to be a breeze by comparison. I haven't even thought about the blu tack process for them. Mind you the unit base I'm working on has its own issues requiring planning. I'm doing a paved road and trying to hide the joins between the bases as well and have it slot into my display board without too many gaps.

So I recommend Blu tack and a digi cam as well as the other suggestions above.

Cheers

Yeah. I've got so many boyz that are a pain to rank up, until recently when I learned that I was actually glueing the shields on their arms wrong, I found out recently that glueing the center hole on one side on the fist works better.
