Glad to hear it! The metal is done as follows: a basecoat of Tin Bitz, a stippling of Macharius Orange, a drybrush of Chainmail, a wash of Badab Black and finally another drybrush of Chainmail, focussing on prominent areas. May seem like alot of work but apart from the basecoat it's all speed techniques. Really, the only thing to watch for is not having too much paint on the brush when you're stippling.

Just played a 1K battle against the hated stunties! I took the following:
Savage Orc Big Boss - great weapon, Amulet of Protectyness, 'itty Ring 35 Night Gobbos (FC) - shields, 2 Fanatics, nets Night Goblin Shaman (lvl 2) - 5 magic mushrooms (awwww yeah!) 10 Error Boyz (Boss, M) 25 Boyz (FC) - shields 20 Stikkaz (M) - 1 Fanatic 2x5 Spider Riders (M) 1 Troll The other guy had 2 units of 10 handgunners with full command, a unit of 15 warriors (FC), a cannon, a souped up Thane, a Slayer hero and 8 Miners packing every piece of gear they could lay their hands on. The board (well... table) was bare, except for a big hill in his deployment zone. We agreed on a capture the hill scenario with him as the defender, and set up our forces. My objective was to remove all beards from the hill, and keep it free of dwarves one turn after that (or maybe two, if it looked like something epic might be about to happen -it's all about the coolness, you know). His was to stop that from happening! I decided that there was no point in beating around the bush, and sent my two big units straight for the objective, while the rest of the guys guarded the flanks (I really, really hate Miners - great weapons and hatred is wicked!). Initially things were looking great. I got the first turn and all units passed their animosity tests, and went full speed ahead. His shooting annihilated both spider units and eventually killed the troll, but both were pretty inconsequential. The cannon was even more useless - the guesses were pretty good, but the arty dice screwed him completely... the only time he didn't overshoot the cannon ball didn't bounce, and in the end the much-feared dwarven war machine accounted for a grand total of 1 Night Goblin... Hah! Then everything started to go wrong! He sent his slayer dude out in front, which triggered the two Fanatics from the main unit. None hit, so suddenly there were two ball-and-chain-wielding crazies between my frothing madman of a general and the stunties. Then my NG unit rolled a 6 for animosity, and waded on top of one Fanatic! 9 casualties and a failed panic check later, and my main hammer had essentially sent itself packing. I'll just repeat that: my hammer unit defeated itself! FVCK! That's greenskins for ya! As it turns out though, all was not lost. I charged the Slayer with my unit of 25 Boyz (either that, or get shot to sh.t) and amazingly, they killed him in short order, only losing the Boss and a single grunt. They overran into the cannon and the Warrior unit next to it, won combat by a heap and sent the Warriors running! Sadly the last crewguy held firm, being stubborn and all, which allowed the Warriors to rally and charge back into the fray. At this point I'd 'Eadbutted the Thane to death, so the stunties lost again, and this time the crew-guy bit the dust as well, allowing me to overrun and kill them all. He only had a few Thunderers left in each unit and the Miners were horribly out of position due to the tactical retreat of my Stikkaz, and so he conceded the game. Sweet - victory for the greenskins! I learned a few very important lessons during this game: 1. Fanatics are dangerous to you, as well as your enemy! Using NG's with Fanatics as a hammer unit can backfire spectacularly if you're not careful, particularly if you've got a frenzied character in there forcing your charge - you do NOT want to end up on top of one of those spinning bastards! 2. Greenskin magic is great! It's dangerous to use, sure, but it really opens up some options that we don't have otherwise. Being able to pound stuff in hiding is very useful, magic movement is excellent and a few magic missiles enables surgical strikes that might otherwise be difficult to pull off (like perhaps KILLING A SLAYER...!). I'll definately be bringing more Shamans to the table. 3. Sword & board Boyz rock! Really, I didn't expect too much from this lot, but as it turns out they dominated the game, pounding ass and taking names left, right and centre. Well, only centre. But they did smash it to pieces! I would have liked a few more kills so I think I'll try some dual choppa Boyz when I get the chance, but overall, these were the stars of the show. 4. Error Boyz ... meh. Don't get confused and think that you're buying them for their bows, you're not. Really, you're buying a slightly less armoured unit of regular Boyz, who happen to have the ability to throw a crapload of arrows at a few select targets. I'll be upgrading these blokes to a full unit of 25 ASAP. Versatility is king... greenskin archery isn't. I had a load of fun and I can't wait to bring my guys to the table again. Thanks for reading! |

I would stick with your original gut on the banner mate, go with the bad moon eating the comet. That is an awesome idea, and I think you might just have enough room to make it happen.
It is funny that you say you don't want to break from painting troopers... it seems so daunting to paint so many of them. BUT, I find that if I am not painting greenskin troopers I get the urge to do so... crazy, right? |

Hey guys. Real life has been kicking my ass lately so not a lot of progress. I've cleaned some parts for future regiments and assembled a few heroes, but that's it really. However, this plog is meant to document the slow periods as well as the productive ones, so here's my first hero:
![]() Sorry for the blurryness, the macro on my phone isn't that great... Contrary to everyone else I don't think a Black Orc hero needs a boar. If I use his shield (it's on his back), he gets that coveted 3+ save and S5 in the first round due to his choppa -the same as a mounted guy with a great weapon, and I can still use dual choppas or a great weapon if the situation calls for it. A nice, cheap hero IMO. And as an added bonus, in a unit of 24 Boyz the panic limit is 7 ghosts, not 6 as it would be if he were mounted... I'll try to finish him tomorrow or tuesday and up a pic. Disregarding crummy pic quality, whatcha guys think? Like the warpaint? This post has been edited by Reiks on Nov 22 2009, 09:01 PM |

Before I read the text I tought you was going to use him as a savage orc because of the warpaint, I like how the model is turning out. The warpaint looks fine. Can we see some pic's from different angles?

Thanks guys! Glad you like the paint, I'm pretty damn happy with it myself. And more pics, you say - your wish is my command (that second pic is pure sex
):http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/Al...Anar/133205.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/Al...Anar/133246.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/Al...Anar/133312.jpg http://i107.photobucket.com/albums/m300/Al...Anar/133330.jpg I don't plan to use warpaint across the force, just on characters and savage orcs (if I manage to convert some). I added it to make him stand out from the rest of the guys, I figured it might be neccesary when I'm not doing flashy armour or anything like that. Speaking of armour, it's obviously heavy, so no confusion regarding his subtype I hope... C&C welcome. Too much metal? This post has been edited by Reiks on Nov 23 2009, 01:02 PM |

The skin? It's scorched brown, gretchin green, sunburst yellow and then bone, followed by some blacklining with black ink. Last step is important, it makes the whole thing pop.

The highlight on the warpaint is especially good! Might I suggest you raise the base he's standing on a little bit, perhaps by placing him on a rock or similar? It'll make him look the biz while in a unit, methinks.

The Boss looks like a typical greenskin leader. Looking forward to seeing the finished product.
